My first Mini, it's not terrible, and not great. Serves the purpose of a fighter with a tower shield with a big sword in heavy armor.
This is how I make a good portion of my work if I am not making chains or fabricating from raw materials. To me it is a way to make objects which I would need to cast (without having a casting studio myself), or waste a lot of material (and money) cutting out of solid pieces.Technology makes possible many things which I wouldn't normally be willing to make, or spend as much time doing them. It takes a long time to 3d Model something from scratch, so it is not a cheap alternative in terms of labor. Getting an item 3d printed and cast by a 3rd party is also not cheap.
Generally I like to have something 3d Printed and then cast by shapeways.com that I designed, then have it shipped to me so I can finish the surface of the work the way I or a customer wants, or give it the right patina, or set any stones into it.The finishes that shapeways.com offers are usually too grainy and not as aesthetically pleasing unless you pay for a polished finish (which I can do cheaper and still have it look as good or better). Shapeways used to or maybe still does offer "stainless steel", but it is not the kind of stainless steel most think of. It is impregnated with bronze and does "rust" or discolor skin. I do not buy that material or suggest it for any wearable jewelry (though for mechanical parts it might be a good choice).
