"The Accidental Artist" (thank you for a great tagline Houston Chronicle!)
It was the need for a website that first had me sitting in front of a computer 13 years ago. An industry that my husband was very familiar with, he literally put a computer together for me using extra parts he had lying around. Once I got the hang of it we realized back then what a promising industry it was, with so many u
ntapped resources and possibilities. We now have a successful secure email system, hundreds of web design clients, medical billing and coding software, dozens of custom applications and consult for technology companies and medical facilities. But 13 years of working side-by-side can take a toll and when given the opportunity to scale back my work schedule, I decided to buy some paints and canvases and try my hand at art. A year later and I have found myself back with my first love - the computer (not to be confused with my true love, lol). When I look back at the past year it's difficult to believe how quickly my art (and subsequent career) have progressed. My first arts and crafts show was last November in League City. It was then that I discovered an online resource for applying to nationwide and top-notch art shows. The first 2-day show was in Austin in the Spring of 2014. After that was an unexpected invitation to the Bayou City Art Festival. With some wind under my wings and some positive feedback regarding my art, I began to refine my style and work towards creating pieces that were more indicative of who I was as a person and as an artist. This fall I look forward to Bayou City Art Festival in Houston, Art @ The Domain in Austin, and the La Cantera Art Festival in San Antonio. The icing on the cake will be my first solo show next month with JoMar Visions at the Hardy and Nance studios in the warehouse district of Houston.
