Tulsa, Oklahoma. Located in what is the crossroads of this country, the center point of the "Mother Road" Route 66. The history of the local music scene predates our statehood. Pioneers of the Jazz scene that had escaped New Orleans. Arguably the birth area of modern Folk music. Stomping grounds for legendary Country music artists. The home stage to the king of Western Swing. And home base for that funky shuffle that changed Rock n Roll, the indescribable, but known world wide as "The Tulsa Sound".
The list of musical talent that has emerged from the city of Tulsa, and surrounding area is so long it would fill a 500 page book! Because of our location Tulsa was infused early on with Blues, Country, R&B, Folk, Gospel, Western Swing, Jazz and early Rock n Roll. From these varied influences upon local musicians the "Tulsa Sound" was birthed during the late 1950's and early 1960's and matured during the 70's and 80's, influencing every form of music since. It's a sound that can not be pinned down, but has often been said as "you know it when you hear it". Leon Russell, JJ Cale, and Eric Clapton are a few of the artists that most point their fingers at when referencing this musical conundrum but that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Bushyhead Farm Fall Festival got its start during the pandemic, as a way for music lovers and local musicians to get out for the first time when nothing else was happening. Since then we've hosted a "who's who" of national talent. Yet, every year the feedback we get has been "the headliners were great but we really loved those Tulsa bands best". Monica and I absolutely love the music scene in Tulsa, and we've yet to find another city anywhere that compares to the fantastic musical talent found on Tulsa stages any day of the week. In fact most days it's a difficult decision of which music venue to attend, as there's multiple great live performances happening around town.
So, with all that being said this year we are focusing our attention on the variety of sounds that are currently emerging from the Tulsa scene, honoring a past Okie legend, and bringing a few outside influences that we feel can't be ignored! Some of you may have never heard of these players, and many of you know fully that these musicians are the cream of the crop! We are extremely excited, honored, and proud to bring to the Bushyhead stage the following (in no particular order):
Big Mogus
Joe Mack
Klondike 5 Stringband
Scott Evans
Cody Brewer
The Earslips
The Ghosts of Bill Erickson
Yongi Live
Poppa Foster's Goodtime Band
The Brad James Band
Chris Lee Becker and Friends
Gogo Plumbay
Knipple
The John Depew Trio
The early party starts Thursday October 2nd with an open mic hosted by local legend Scary Larry, so bring your instruments and a song! Then we'll kick off main stage music at noon on Friday, and continue through Saturday night. Lots of great arts and craft vendors, and we'll have a great new food truck that we are really excited about! Early bird tickets ended today, but passes for the weekend are still under $100! Come join us for an unforgettable weekend of music, comradely and the majesty of the natural world. As always kids under 18 are free.
Stay tuned over the next few weeks we'll be posting video's, music links and bios of the amazing artists that are going to blow your minds! You can find all ticket options here:
