Kansas City Sinfonietta opens its second season with (un)settling, an immersive, interdisciplinary concert that challenges the mythology of American identity through a bold reexamination of Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Copland’s iconic score is placed in provocative dialogue with music by Gabriela Lena Frank and new commissions by Julia Moss and Artistic Director Nicholas Perry Clark , creating a layered exploration of nationalism, memory, and cultural identity. By the time the concert arrives at Copland’s radiant finale, audiences are invited to confront a deeper question: what does it mean to feel nostalgia for America with a modern, pluralistic lens? And what might it take to imagine something more honest in its place?

KCietta has made the decision to postpone our upcoming May concert as we continue building toward an exciting future for the organization. We will notify everyone of the new date late this summer.

Thank you to everyone who supported us this season by coming to Winterreise in February and to our Kickoff Concert Series in August 2025. We can’t wait to bring more immersive and boundary-pushing performances to the Kansas City community.

Great news! The Kansas City Sinfonietta is excited to share that our March crowd-funded Kickstarter campaign was a success 🥳 Thank you to everyone who donated and to everyone who continues to support and believe in this ensemble. We couldn’t do this without you!
