We are committed more today than before to lend our voices for societal change. And as a reminder of Dr. King core message that "all struggles for justice are interconnected and interdependent….meaning injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere".

OVKC and TKC will continue to use our voices for economic justice, immigrant justice, trans and racial justice.

And if we ignore the call "our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter" – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), when we honor all the transgender and gender nonconforming people whose lives were lost due to acts of anti-transgender violence. It's not just about remembering those lives lost, it's about confronting the violence that continues today.

We must understand awareness is not enough. Awareness is only productive when it's a step in a much broader process to foster true & authentic acceptance and progress for trans people. We must do better and continue to strive for better.

With the prolonged government shutdown and the unfortunate interruption of SNAP benefits, many in our community will be at risk of missing their monthly food benefits. This is a vital need for low-income households. We're sharing this list of FREE hot meals available at various locations around Kansas City.

Please lean in and share this post and/or the information to make sure individuals and families you know stay safe and fed. In these uncertain times, we need each other more than ever before!

The 3rd annual Trans Joy Camp at the Gaea Retreat Center in McLouth, Kansas is NEXT WEEKEND and they need our help. From July 17–20. This four-day retreat will bring together up to 200 transgender and gender non-conforming individuals of all ages and their loved ones, regardless of income, for classes on art, nature, and wellness, daily assemblies, special events, and opportunities for relaxation in a
welcoming natural setting.

To ensure that this event remains accessible to all, Trans Joy KC is seeking donations to cover the costs of accommodations, meals, supplies, and essential first aid materials to keep our volunteers and campers healthy and safe.

The average cost per camper and volunteer is approximately $125. To assist in this effort and because of timing, TODAY is the last day to arrange for pickup of purchased items. However, you can still support our friends at Trans Joy by making a donation to assist with costs to make camp such an enjoyable and memorable experience.
