Cotton, marigolds, procion dye, thread

The square is a symbol for stability and organization. Can also represent the four elements, four seasons, four stages of life, and four points of the compass – all derivations of order in the world.

All hand-dyed. Squares bundle-dyed with Marigolds. Some solid fabric dyed with marigolds and some with synthetic dye. Quilted with a high-loft batting.

Today is the day! Opening reception from 2:00 - 4:00 pm in the Xavier Hall Goppert Gallery on The University of Saint Mary's Main Campus in Leavenworth at 4100 South 4th Street

In this series, I bring together a combination of synthetic and natural materials to evoke connection and collectivism with rituals of interconnectedness.

Kindred to the unseen network of each human being to the universe, I view each form as a link, or connection, of a single entity to the greater whole. Each form possesses deeper consideration of symbolism in terms of the way they are pieced/ knotted, shape, color, and from what source that color was achieved.

Many colors were attained with natural dyestuff either grown from seed or foraged. To sew, to dye, to knot, to bind, to forage, to plant a garden… all hold mysterious potential, justifications for hope. We must employ our values and passions towards collectivism in order to be prosperous.

🚨 QUILT RAFFLE 🚨

In an effort to purchase supplies and cover some living expenses, I am raffling this 71" x 82" hand-marbled cotton quilt! Light peachy pink solids pieced with marbled greys and eggshell tones. Quilted with grey thread, cotton batting and a pale pink upcycled sheet for the backing. Small amount of paint splatter in the corner.

🌼🌠🌟 It's no wonder why Spanish preists named Cosmos after the stars. "Cosmos" meaning “ordered universe in harmony”, name for the flower's evenly spaced, simple petals. Cosmos are also in the Asteraceae family, directly translating to "star" in Greek.

Featured are four 20" x 20" Bright Lights Cosmos printed organic cotton bandanas. Each is for sale for $45, local pick up got $10 ships. DM me!

Sagittarius A ♐🕳
Cotton, pigment, thread

Every large galaxy has a supermassive black hole at the center. The black hole at the center of our galaxy, the Milk Way, is named Sagittarius A and it could fit millions of Earths inside.

This body of work began during the quarantine, a time when the world felt like too much and many of us questioned our perceptions of reality. Much like our understanding of the Universe, things once thought to be true were found to be false at an ever advancing rate. Perhaps many of us felt like we were floating in space and maybe some of us are still out there, finding our way back.

We are the Universe and it is us, made up of the same cosmic dust. Space is warped by the objects within it, similar to how our communities are shaped by the actions of the individuals within them. Our individual movements through space have undeniable effects on the passage of time.
