You're Invited: TRC Community Forum

Join us on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the TRC Gym, located at 831 S. 55th Street, Kansas City, KS 66106.

This is your opportunity to share your thoughts, ideas, and vision for the future of recreation in Turner. Community members will have the chance to provide feedback on potential capital improvement projects that TRC hopes to pursue as funding becomes available, as well as discuss future recreation programs, amenities, and community needs.

Important Community Update

After extensive discussion, careful consideration, and consultation with the TRC Board of Commissioners, Turner Recreation Commission has made the difficult decision to cancel our 2026 Fireworks in the Park event.

We understand this news will be disappointing for many families, and we share in that disappointment. This decision was not made lightly. Over the past several weeks, TRC staff and Board members have worked to evaluate available options and determine whether the event could be conducted safely and responsibly given circumstances outside of our control.

Please take a moment to review the attached letter for additional information regarding this decision, as well as alternative Independence Day celebrations available throughout the area.

The Dotte Mobile Grocer relies heavily on community partners to help us connect people with access to healthy, affordable food. When returning to service, we reached out to existing partners, and the Turner Recreation Commission welcomed the Dotte Mobile Grocer back to provide a consistent, reliable resource for their community members.

Located in the historic heart of the Turner district, this center offers multiple sports, programs, fitness facilities, services, special events, and community resources for people of all ages & abilities. In doing so, they also provide spaces & opportunities for people to gather as a community. Their commitment to the goals of their mission is evident whenever you visit the center.

Turner Recreation Commission’s goals are closely aligned with those of the Dotte Mobile Grocer, making the partnership a natural fit. Healthy individuals & healthy communities rely on each other. Promoting & supporting a healthy community requires planning, hard work, & commitment. But it’s also important to include fun, creativity, & joy. The team at Turner Rec works every day to provide opportunities to build wellness & community while always including space for fun & encouraging empathy & kindness. We see it in our customers when we are met with friendly curiosity & when we witness customers shopping for neighbors & family members, so they don’t miss the chance to get a great deal on healthy food. We are so grateful for our partnership with Turner Recreation Commission & all of our customers in the Turner community!

On behalf of Coach Brecheisen, today's Baseball Camp (Tuesday, June 9, 2026) has been canceled. As of now, Wednesday and Thursday camp sessions are still scheduled to take place as planned.

Last week kicked off our 2026 Summer Camp season! Campers spent the week getting to know their groups, learning everyone's names, participating in team-building activities, creating awesome crafts, cooling off in the pool, and so much more!

Each week, campers will focus on a Word of the Week that helps guide activities, discussions, and opportunities for personal growth. Last week's word was "Kindness". Throughout the week, campers were encouraged to show kindness through their actions, friendships, and everyday interactions with others.

Our hope is that these lessons extend beyond camp and help campers become kind, respectful, and caring members of our community both at camp and at home.

Parents, when you pick up your camper, ask them about the Word of the Week and how they demonstrated it throughout their day!

We're excited for all the memories, friendships, adventures, and fun that are still to come this summer. Here's to an amazing Summer Camp 2026! ☀️😎🎨🏊‍♀️
