Over the last year I have been working on the largest commission of my career, a series of horse paintings-all unique and beloved by Teresa Boss, and will be hosting a viewing this upcoming Saturday at Willow Creek Sport Horses.

Friends! Hi. Thank you for all the support this past weekend. To the people cheering me on, the ones who pulled West around in wagons and kept him quiet while horses were in the ring, and let him lead you to me. To show you mamas art. It was special to have him there with me but it was considerably more challenging than I had expected. I know I don’t have a son I can prop up quietly in the corner with his favorite show or book or train but I dared to hope. Lesson learned. I am a student of life.

So. The trip to St Louis to show my art did not go as I had hoped. But I watched someone’s mouth drop open when they saw my painting of Ami. Another told me one of my newer pieces, Muse, had given her chills. I am really proud of those reactions. So while I packed a little disappointment with me on the ride home, I was also carrying with me those moments where my art had touched someone. And that is something I would really like it to do.

At home I was greeted with a husband who I really missed. He really missed us too. Later I showered and the best realization came to me, the way they sometimes do in the shower. I realized I had REALLY shown up for myself. I worked hard to get ready for that show. I believed the work I had was worth being seen.

I am so proud of that.

I think an older Cassie is sitting in a rocking chair nodding. Remembering this time. I’m doing what I am supposed to be.
