BNR Squares

BNR Squares We are the B-N-R Squares! We are a square dance club in the northland in Kansas City, MO. Please see our website below for our full schedule!

Our caller is Lynn Nelson and we would love to see you at our next dance! We dance at the Gashland United Methodist Church on the 2nd Friday of every month from September to May except December when we dance Christmas night. During the summer months we have specials featuring well-known callers from all over the United States! Come join us and Be iN ouR Squares!

Wednesday we had our first lesson with 6 new dancers in attendance and the promise of 5 more in the coming weeks. I'm very excited about the prospect of putting new dancers on the dance floor. Their smiles as they learn always rejuvenate me. Maybe that's why I love to teach.

Last night we had our final dance of the "official" season. It was our annual Hawaiian dance. There were 23 visitors, including 3 callers (Bill Reynolds, Rau Trowbridge. and Stan Brooke) and 15 members present. Lots of smiles on the dance floor and tasty munchies on the refreshment table. Thanks to everyone who has made our dance season a success. We hope to see you all in a square at one of the many special dances this summer.

This coming Wednesday, May 6th, we will start Mainstream lessons. They will be held from 7-9pm at Avondale United Methodist Church, 3101 NE Winn Rd,. KCMO. Anyone interested in learning is welcome. If you have someone who is interested and your club isn't doing, bring them to us. We'll teach them and send them back to you. If you make them wait until fall, they may find something else to entertain themselves. Please let me know so I can be sure to enough angels.

Went to Topeka tonight to the new Caller showcase dance. We were not disappointed. Each new Caller called both patter and singing call and it was easy to see how much work and preparation had gone into each performance. Congratulations gang. Keep up the good work.

What a wonderful dance we had tonight. 48 dancers in the hall including visiting callers, Bill Reynolds, Bill Roles and James Shaw. Stan Brooke even stopped by for a bit. Thanks to everyone for visiting and to all the members who helped in any way. Steve and Kathy Bean really came thru with our selfie station this month. It was a great way to start another season.

Tonight we graduated 6 new dancers. I look forward to seeing them all out at dances. They have been a fun class and I hope they realize the fun is just beginning. Special thanks go to all the angels who helped week in and week out. We couldn't do it without you. Very special thanks to Cindy Nichol and Marla Doxey who provided locations for our lessons.

I'm happy to announce that the church has cleared the lot, at least partially, so BNR Squares will be dancing tonight. Dan always does a great job choosing music to follow our themes so bring your sweetheart And dance to a variety of love songs.

I know you are all probably tired of being housebound this week, but since the church wasn't sure if the parking lot would be cleared Friday or Saturday and even if it's cleared, they won't put down salt or sand, the decision has been made to cancel the BNR dance this Friday, January 10th. We regret canceling and were looking forward to seeing many of you. We just didn't think it would be prudent to take the chance of someone falling and possibly being injured. Hopefully, Mother Nature will get all this out of her system and Dan will be able to entertain you in February. In the meantime, please stay safe and warm.

Christmas is barely a week away and that means that the largest percentage of another year is behind us. Over the past 12 months we've shared a lot of laughter and even a few tears. We've shared words of encouragement, love and friendship. At this time of year, it's a good time to reflect on all the blessings we take for granted the rest of the year. I want you all to know that I count each and every one of you among my blessings. I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year full of nothing but joy and love.

BNR Squares will have our final dance of 2024 on Christmas night. We will be using as much Christmas music as we can fit into our 2 1/2 hours and we hope if you find that all the hoopla you had planned has come to an end, that you will join us. As always, casual if you wish, but square dance attire is always appropriate.

We also want to thank all the visitors that we've had this year for helping to make 2024 such a great year. Merry Christmas.

Tonight we gather at Gashland UMC to dance, enjoy the company of others and thank the veterans who fought for our right to do it. We'd love you to join us. Proudly wear your red, white and blue. Fun starts at 7:30pm.
