A gothic “dressoir” comeback is imminent? These are quintessential pieces of the late medieval and renaissance periods. The one in the video is albeit a (beautiful) 19th century reproduction.

Already miss this enchanting place encircled by spring-fed streams and red beech trees. The site has been active for thousands of years and was from the 11th to the 19th centuries a priory dedicated to Saint Eligius. In 1882 the current structure was completed by a Parisian architect who faithfully followed the ruins and floor-plans of the previous 15th century fortified house.

A mysterious style with - naturalism of the mid-19th century which now appears as if torn from the pages of Lewis Carroll. Thanks for the tour of this exceptional set by the Levera Brothers, an Italian firm which delivered pieces to King Victor Emmanuel II.

Perhaps this rare style could be seen as the epilogue of the story of traditional period furniture. After centuries of rendering order out of nature, the art circle to beat nature at her own game.

(Sold) circa 1830 round table in the grand but comfortable style of the day sometimes called “bourgeois-royal.” At a glance, it looks like the iconic model of the Louis-Philippe period, but for whatever reason these larger 45 inch diameter ones are much rarer.

(Sold) original coverings circa 1830 still intact on this partial salon set comprised of eight armchairs and one sofa. The upholstery cost historically is understood to have almost always been greater than that of the furniture itself. Subtler models of seating reveal how chairs are in part frames for this woven art. Thank you to for ensuring safe transport across the Atlantic, and to .mcbee for the beautiful photos.

These pieces were stored, untouched for fifty years and clearly only lightly used beforehand. Their original provenance has been lost, but the same textile occasionally shows up on pieces from the Château d’Eu -where the red version is still displayed. Many thanks to a collector who plans to conserve this interesting textile archive for another lifetime!

A dynamic combination piece - part desk, part mirror, part chest of drawers, part armoire (circa 1820). Swiveling candlesticks still are in place although they’re seemingly later than the original ones. Thanks to for letting me inspect my items and film in their enormous warehouse by the Paris airport!

Large late gothic period chest in oak, probably northern France with about 20% of it reworked or replaced consistent with age (particularly the base moldings and lower parts of the feet). The book example from Jacqueline Boccador’s “Mobilier Français du Moyen Age” shows a similarly elaborate example without the base moldings replaced. 🙏 .mcbee 📸

Astonishing Royal Italian cabinet from the time of King Umberto I, with beautifully preserved labels showing its curation by chief architect Emilio Stramucci. Administrative marks trace its movements between the palaces of Florence and Turin. I almost didn’t notice the secret compartments, typical of these special pieces. Many thanks to for ensuring various successful moves of this work of art! It dismantles into 8 ingeniously designed pieces - please DM for details.
