Every Love Story Is A Ghost Story from BLEEPBLOOP

Every Love Story Is A Ghost Story is a long form, digital, and multidisciplinary piece with the music composed by Seth Andrew Davis, performed by saxophonist Kyle Hutchins, with choreography by Nora Burkitt-Davis, and live video by Ian O’Neill. A project by the newly founded group Bleep-Bloop, a multimedia and interdisciplinary group.

The work employs a non-linear narrative, exploring four different vignettes with each narrative explored through the exploration of a specific location or liminal space as expressed through dance and live video manipulation. The four stories explore themes of death, transcendence, future worlds and utopias, dreams, and the hope for a transformed world. The spaces explored are real (a dead mall, a family home, a casino, an open road) and imaginary (a melting landscape at the end of the world).

Every Love Story Is A Ghost Story takes place in a quickly evolving environment by dancers in with video installations and projections, with live musicians. The work features an original long-form composition, a newly choreographed piece of dance and physical theater, improvisational music and dance, and video art, with live performance by local musicians, actors, and dancers. The project team consists of Seth Andrew Davis (composer, musician, improviser), Kyle Hutchins (saxophonist), Nora Burkitt-Davis (choreographer, dancer), Ian O'Neill (video artist), Shannon DeGroot (dancer) Christine Frisbie (dancer), and Carolyn Radke (dancer).

We’re excited to present "Music for Audio-Visual Ensemble", an innovative performance exploring the dynamic relationship between sound and video as equal instruments. This event highlights the dynamics of technology to merge these worlds into real-time artistic experiences.

The roots of audio-visual performance date back to pioneers like John Cage and Merce Cunningham, whose Variations V (1965) integrated sound, movement, and video using motion sensors. Nam June Paik further expanded the field with TV Cello, blending live music and video manipulation. Steina and Woody Vasulka used musical instruments to control video output, demonstrating the seamless fusion of sound and visuals.

Music for Audio-Visual Ensemble builds on this foundation, offering a contemporary take on multimedia performance. Experience performers crafting real-time audiovisual compositions, where sound and visuals interact and evolve in tandem.

📅 Date: December 5th

Scenes and Stills from our recent BLEEPBLOOP Cinema night at Westport Coffee House

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

Players improvised a live score using electroacoustic techniques while the film was digitally altered in real time. Both audio and video interacted and performed together to create a one-of-a-kind screening of this classic film.

Thank you to all who attended and Westport Coffee House for hosting. BLEEPBLOOP cinema will return with new films and new interactions.
