Welcome back Roos! We hope everyone had a nice break. We’re back, with old members as well as some new members!

Egghead is UMKC’s student-led advertising and design agency. Our staff of Studio Art majors and Communication Studies majors come together to provide our clients with visual marketing materials and research-based advertising campaigns, under the supervision of Professor Paul Tosh in collaboration with Dr. Ye Wang.

How is everyone's Fall semester going?

Egghead is back in full swing with a new logo, and a new team of advertising and design students! We've been working hard with clients - old and new - to create logos, apparel, copy and more for their brands.

TypeHike is a collaborative, nonprofit design project that supports the outdoors through typography. Expressed as poster series focusing on national shorelines and recreation areas, endangered animals and Mars, this exhibition will be presented at the UMKC Gallery of Art, the UMKC Fine Arts Building, November 1 thru November 17, with the opening reception November 1, 7:00-8:30 pm. The opening will be proceeded by TypeTalk from co-creator, James Walker, at the UMKC Miller Nichols Library Room 325, at 6:00pm. The exhibition is co-sponsored by the UMKC Dept. of Art & Art History and the Kansas City Art Institute. Both events are free and open to the public.

It's the final count-down! (or is that a cheezy 70s rock song by the group Europe?) Anyway, Wednesday, April 5, 4:00, the next to the last UMKC Art & Art History Design Speaks talk of the spring semester. And it's a goody! Ingred Sidie, co-owner, entrepreneur, and hell of a designer of the Design Ranch. I'm excited! And so should you be! And it's free and open to the public! Go figure!

Last but definitely not least of the Design Speaks Series for this spring. I'm always so happy & proud to see my students succeed. And Kathleen Hoang definitely fits that definition. From intern at the Federal Reserve to Director of Interactive Design at SoftVu, Kathleen has done herself and UMKC proud. VERY excited to have her speak at UMKC Monday, April 10, at 4:00.

And the Hit's keep on coming! Kansas City has more than it's fair share of great designers and design firms/studios. And the Design Ranch rates up there with all of them. Holy smokes! Spring break is half through, and only 5 weeks of classes left! And the last three Design Speaks Talks are coming up!! Three in a row!!! And the upcoming one is a doozy! Speaking of Mad Dogs and Englishmen! Well, the dogs are pretty laid back, but the Englishman, not so much. And it's a studio tour and demo!!! This Monday at 4:00pm!

Our Design Speaks series: An artist through and through, it’s obvious that Frankie Oviedo, Partner of Liquid 9 Studios, a commercial film production and post production company, is informed by his background as a highly decorated creative director. He combines strategy with a keen artful eye for detail on every project he touches. Serving as creative director for Liquid 9, Frankie has worked for major accounts such as Wendy’s, Warner Bros., Sporting KC, Chili’s, and Fender. He has been recognized internationally for his creativity and received awards from the world’s most prestigious festivals and publications: Cannes Lions, MTV U Woody Award, AIGA, Print Magazine, HOW Design Magazine, Local/Regional/National ADDY’s.
