It felt good to get back to big band, and see and work with many friends again for the first time in a Covid-while… The audience found whatever shade they could on the hottest day of the heatwave, hence one speaker weirdly pointing over to where some were sitting in the shade of the pavilion. Delivering a good experience to all of the audience is the goal!

Spent a pleasant afternoon under some trees amongst the giant shuttlecocks last weekend, recording and making sure the sold out (and physically distanced) audience for the Bach Aria Soloists "Women Power" concert could hear the program of chamber music over the noisy wedding and high school photo shoot groups, traffic, and helicopters etc. Only 4 inputs, but that just means there's nowhere to hide or bury anything... Fingers on faders... No time to relax... (Cleaned the blossom petals out of the faders afterwards!)

Virtual choir? Virtual ensemble? We're editing and mixing the audio for those, and can make your next virtual concert in the new year sound great!

Attention to detail, and communication with directors are what make these projects happen on time and on budget. The screenshot shows what were continuous tracks (sixty or so of them for some projects!) recorded on phones in all kinds of acoustics at all kinds of consistencies from each performer, separated into smaller phrases or words or even syllables, to tighten up the performance as if the performers were together in the same room interacting with each other and the conductor.

Even with the latest software and plug-ins, there's very little "auto" about it! It's a lot of manual separating, pushing, pulling, extending, shortening, and fading – and skill and experience knowing what to fix, how much to fix it, and which tool is most efficient for each specific moment, to reflect the ensemble and their intentions.
