KCMDT offers quality and affordable dance lessons to our community's youth. KCMDT was created by the Executive/Artistic Director, Kymberlyn Jones. Inspired by the legendary and iconic Smith Sisters Dance Studio, and driven by her experience, and passion for dance and the performing arts. Kym, established KCMDT in February, 2007 with the help of many friends and supporters. Recognizing the decrease
of arts in the schools, cutbacks in afterschool programs, lack of community children’s nonprofit performing arts organizations, and the influx of dance studios migrating to the suburbs, Ms. Kym found a need to establish a venue to give back to the community the preciousness of performing arts through children. As a product of Miller Marley, Kansas City Ballet, and her home base, Smith Sisters, she got an opportunity to reopen the doors for KCMDT in the very location of where she trained. Her first instructor is the granddaughter of Kay Woods, of the original Smith Sisters, and is still with her today. KCMDT is to become an icon in the community to keep and deliver arts education and training with a sense of purpose, motivation, self worth, and creative energy to our children in the urban area. Kym wants to cultivate an awareness and appreciation of the performing arts, in the urban core, while capturing the attention of youth creating a cooperative network of collaborative for their arts exposure. While addressing hanging in the streets, computer games obsessions and cell phone activity, and youth obesity, KCMDT will be a vital influence positively impacting the lives of our youth. It will be a creative outlet allowing children to discover arts interest, helping to unveil their inner talents, reach higher confidence levels, and positive self esteem, instilling leadership and life skills, emphasizing academic excellence, health and fitness, and coaching through structure and discipline, and encouraging responsible children to become their ultimate best.
