🎭🌙 Starlight Theatre – Kansas City, MO 🌙🎭

Under the open sky of Swope Park, Starlight Theatre has been bringing music, laughter, and community together for over 75 years. Since opening in 1950, this beloved outdoor venue has hosted Broadway hits, concerts, and performances that define Kansas City’s summer nights.

Built through the passion of local volunteers and performers, Starlight was designed to make the arts accessible to everyone, a place where stars on stage meet stars overhead. Over the decades, it’s welcomed legends from Julie Andrews to Elton John, and it remains one of the few self-producing outdoor theaters left in the country.

This hand-drawn artwork captures the magic of its grand facade and glowing lights, a timeless symbol of KC’s creative spirit and love for live performance.

🚉✨ Union Station – Kansas City, MO ✨🚉

Few places capture the heart of Kansas City like Union Station, a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts architecture and one of the city’s most treasured landmarks. Opened in 1914, it once served as a bustling hub for more than 200 passenger trains a day, connecting travelers from coast to coast and marking KC as a true crossroads of America.

Designed by architect Jarvis Hunt, the building’s soaring ceilings, grand chandeliers, and marble floors reflect an era when travel was an experience of wonder and elegance. After falling silent for years, the station was beautifully restored in the late 1990s, reopening as a vibrant center for science, art, history, and community, a living monument to Kansas City’s resilience and pride.

This hand-drawn artwork captures the timeless beauty of Union Station’s facade, a reminder of the journeys begun, stories shared, and moments that continue to unfold within its walls.

The Scout Statue – Kansas City, MO

Perched high above Penn Valley Park, The Scout stands as one of Kansas City’s most meaningful landmarks, a bronze tribute to the strength, skill, and spirit of Native American culture. Installed in 1922, this 10-foot statue depicts a Native American on horseback, pausing to study the vast land before him, in a moment of awareness, respect, and connection to nature.

Sculpted by artist Cyrus E. Dallin, The Scout was created to honor and preserve the dignity of Native American life. Dallin devoted much of his career to depicting Indigenous subjects with reverence and authenticity, countering stereotypes of the time. His work reflects admiration for the traditions, resilience, and deep relationship with the land that define Native heritage.

This hand-drawn artwork captures that quiet power with the rider and his horse. More than just a statue, The Scout is a lasting reminder to look back with respect and forward with understanding.

☀️📚 Afterword Tavern & Shelves – Kansas City, MO 📚☀️

Happy Friday, Kansas City! If you’re looking for plans tonight, make your way to Afterword Tavern & Shelves in the Crossroads. Part bookstore, part bar, and entirely KC, it’s one of those places that feels like it was built for winding down after a long week.

By day, sunlight filters through the big front windows, illuminating shelves of stories and quiet corners. By night, the lights dim, the chatter rises, and the aroma of craft cocktails fills the air. It’s the perfect mix of creativity, comfort, and Kansas City charm.

This hand-drawn artwork captures the warmth of its inviting storefront, a little slice of the Crossroads where books meet conversation and every night feels like a story waiting to happen.

🎷🎶 18th & Vine Sign – Kansas City, MO 🎶🎷

Few places carry as much Kansas City soul as 18th & Vine, the heart of KC’s historic Jazz District. This hand-drawn artwork celebrates the iconic neon sign that welcomes visitors to a neighborhood that shaped American music and culture.

In the early 20th century, 18th & Vine was alive with rhythm and creativity, home to legends like Count Basie, Charlie Parker, and Big Joe Turner. The clubs, theaters, and record shops that lined these streets gave birth to the signature “Kansas City sound,” blending blues, swing, and improvisation into something entirely its own.

Today, the 18th & Vine sign stands as a glowing reminder of that legacy, a symbol of pride, culture, and resilience that still shines over the city that jazz built.

🍺 Boulevard Brewery Smokestack – Kansas City, MO 🍺

Standing tall over Southwest Boulevard, the Brewery Smokestack has become one of Kansas City’s most recognizable landmarks and a proud symbol of local craftsmanship and hometown pride.

Founded in 1989 by John McDonald, Boulevard Brewing Company began with a simple mission: to bring fresh, high-quality beer back to Kansas City. From those humble beginnings, brewing out of a repurposed brick warehouse, the operation quickly grew into the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest.

This hand-drawn artwork captures the industrial beauty of the smokestack, its bold lettering rising above the city skyline, a beacon for beer lovers near and far. It’s a celebration of creativity, community, and the spirit of doing things the Kansas City way.

🚚💥 Independence Ave “Truck-Eating Bridge” – Kansas City, MO 💥🚚

A Kansas City legend in its own right, the Independence Avenue Bridge has earned its nickname the hard way, by taking a bite out of more trucks than anyone can count. With a clearance of just 12 feet, this low bridge near downtown has been stopping box trucks, semis, and moving vans in their tracks for decades.

Despite warning signs, flashing lights, and even viral fame, the bridge keeps its streak alive! It’s a running joke and rite of passage for KC drivers. This hand-drawn artwork captures the unmistakable look of the “truck-eating bridge”, with yet another meal for the bridge, a symbol of Kansas City humor and history rolled into one.

What started as frustration has turned into local folklore, reminding us that sometimes our city’s quirks are what make it unforgettable.
