111 years ago today, Harry Houdini successfully escaped from a straight jacket supplied by the KCPD while hanging high above a crowd of 5000 onlookers at 10th and Main in Kansas City. It was the very first time he performed the feat outdoors. He would go on to do it 77 more times around the world.

This Friday, to commemorate this moment in history, local magicians will unveil a marker at that very spot with Mayor Lucas.

Halloween is the 100th anniversary of Harry Houdini’s death. On Friday, October 23rd, we’ll be raising a glass to the legend at Lifted Spirits and performing an encore presentation of our summer show Razor Blades, Rituals, & Rumors (including a couple of new surprises). Won’t you join us?

On the 100th anniversary of Houdini’s death, friends Bryce Kuhlman (Magic Castle) and C.K. Carey (two-time Best of Fringe winner) celebrate his legacy the wrong way - by playing with their childhood fears. This interactive mix of psychological magic and Gen-X urban myths hunts for "Satanic Panic" and summons ghosts with strangers. It explores how playground rumors evolve into adult anxieties using a shared history of magic to walk the line between childhood superstition and grown-up mortality.
