The Spectacle Society is a group of artists whose goal is to create unique immersive art experiences full of fantastical environments, captivating creatures and interactive elements. The number of artists in the collective varies from show to show, currently there are 11 artists and makers making parts of our upcoming exhibit; Step into The Surreal.

You turn around to take in the rest of Grandma's house- a cozy living space complete with couch, and TV. The wall above the couch is littered with photographs. You decide to have a look at the photo wall hoping you might glean more information from what you find there.

You see childhood portraits, group photos, and paintings stacked vertically on either side of a large mirror. Nothing looks too distinct about any of the portraiture and the mirror. Although an interesting statement piece seems to be just that. As you turn to investigate another part of the room, you see a face manifest within the mirror. Large eyes, a mouth and colorful lines make up a being looking out from the mirror and directly at you. Messages appear on the glass. Some making sense, some not. Is this mirror trying to communicate?

As you puzzle this out. You catch movement out of your periphery, looking down you notice spots on the sofa shifting and moving. As you stare down at one of the spots you notice it becoming engorged and as it grows and grows, it forms a creature with button eyes and large human-like teeth, its skin and arms an extension of the couch's fabric. These couch creatures appear all over the sofa chattering and chomping as they grow.

Another creature pops up from behind the couch, with the face of a baby doll and a colorful elongated furry body staring blankly out of soulless eyes, the creature sways back and forth making cooing sounds. Startled you back into the side table and as you jostle it, cow-like creatures gallop out from under the chair and run in laps around the room before returning beneath it.

When you jostled the table, the lid fell off a second candy dish. Grabbing a licorice out of the jar, you once again embrace the surreal, sitting down to watch a little TV.

You once again become aware of your surroundings, standing in the confined space of the closet. You notice a colorful curtain to your right and peer through it, seeing what at first glance seems like an ordinary living area. No longer trusting the comforting feeling of the enclosed space, you quickly exit through the curtain and see that this house is not ordinary at all.

Refrigerator, stove, sink and pantry all stand before you. However, when you look through the window above the sink instead of a view of the outside, you're greeted with a jittering, jolting display of other environments cascading into one another. One looks strangely similar to the industrial world you just came from. Another echoes a living room. No, two or three living rooms popping in and out from each other like multiple worlds haphazardly converging on the same plane and vying for purchase.

At this point there's really no reason not to explore to the fullest. Giving in to curiosity, you open the refrigerator door. Whatever you were expecting to see is not what you are greeted with.

You stare into the shelves wondering how such things can exist. Mutated foodstuffs come to life and fill your vision sitting on plates, in containers, grazing the fields and marching through portals. Giving them their space, you close the door. Will you explore the rest of the cabinets? Do you dare look inside the pot on the stove or open the oven? You could try the phone, calling Sheila maybe or Baby Charlotte.

Exiting the alleyway you see one discernible path ahead but you are unsure where it will lead. You crouch down, getting on your hands and knees in order to fit inside the pitch black passageway. As you enter the tunnel you see nothing in your immediate surroundings, the black inkiness is too much to see past.

As your eyes adjust to the dark you start to make out more of your surroundings. To your left is a small crevasse of bright light, to your right a dull pulsing glow. You head to the left, toward the bright light that reminds you of the comfort and safety of the daytime. But as the crevasse grows in your view you notice the light is shifting and moving further and further in the opposite direction, drawing you towards something you can never reach. You worry that if you should go further, you may end up irrevocably trapped within the infinitely spinning environment that lay ahead. You turn around, now heading towards the subtle pulsing glow in the other direction.

As you crawl through the tunnel towards the dim light you feel the surface underneath you start to change, no longer hard and unforgiving the surface beneath you becomes more and more soft. You are compelled to keep moving towards it. As you go further the walls and ceiling start shifting as well until you are completely engulfed by its warm, soft embrace. You reach a point, finally, at which you can stand up again.

As you rise to your feet, the pulsating light grows stronger and stronger. It becomes harder for you to fit in the space as you notice something else in there. Something human-sized. As your mind races, trying to discern what this object could be you notice the soft sounds surrounding you like a comforting blanket. Instead of feeling a sense of restriction or unease you feel an immediate sense of calm as though Everything's Going to be Fine.

Hundreds of people have already experienced Step Into the Surreal. Come explore our immersive art exhibit. Wander through the otherworldly forest, traverse the neon industrial streets, and investigate every nook and cranny of Grandma's uncanny abode.

After entering the industrial area, desaturated and austere, you turned down an alleyway that grows ever more lively and colorful with each step. As you walk, you see more and more characters looking out of brightly lit windows. The business eggs fast at work in their office spaces. The party bacon dancing the night away at the local disco. Something draws you in, going ever further to a dead end that doesn't seem like it's the end of something but the beginning. You reach the end of the alley to find a corner, around which you are greeted by a haphazard scene. A cacophony of creatures, colors and shapes.

Throughout the space are portals popping up here, there, and everywhere. In the center two gigantic tentacles appearing out of dark portals from above and below, dancing as they meet in the middle. On either side of you, you see a goat of immeasurable length, his head popping out of one portal. His rear flying into another. He seems to be traversing two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces as he continues his never-ending portal hopping. Bouncing around throughout this scene are spherical creatures resonating with noteworthy sounds. Unsure of the consequences of entering such an environment. You return down the vibrant alleyway back towards the safe banality of the main cityscape.
