Sometimes mending garments includes busting out the pliers, being assaulted by sharp, violent clothing, breaking needles on chains, and wondering if I'm up to date on my tetanus shots. Hell yeah.

Say hello to my one personal project I make a year 😅. I started this Japan Fest tshirt quilt back in October when I was inspired right after the Kansas City Japan Festival in 2025 and finished it a few weeks ago!

More than just a collection of tshirts, this quilt is infused with memories of my performances with threetrailstaiko , my dad and Aya's heartfelt J-country sets, my mom's traditional dance, tea ceremony, and kimono demonstrations, selling sauce with my sisters for the family business, and marching around with Christopher Befort and our kids in the children's parade.

This is a representation of the bridges I have built over the years, finally making the connections between my own identity and the cultural background that was always at my fingertips, but never close enough to grasp. Now I realize that I don't have to grasp the version of a culture that's presented to the world at large, just the version of it that fits into my own life as my own person with my own experiences. It isn't about fitting into a box of what I should be, but more about appreciating and connecting to my origins in the ways that come naturally to me while also just being my own weird self. ✌️

I had the pleasure of restoring this gorgeous family heirloom for a client last week. This hand pieced and hand quilted lonestar quilt turned into moth food at some point, but with a little extra care this work of art is back in commission! I'm so grateful to be trusted to work on these kinds of projects that hold so much sentimental value for my clients and their families. Thank you!

I had the pleasure of restoring this quilt made in 1940! This whole quilt was pieced AND quilted by hand and was never touched by a sewing machine. The amount of craftsmanship it takes to make a quilt like this is astounding and often gets overlooked. It feels great to give these old quilts some respect and special treatment...it's like im cheers-ing 🥂 the spirit of the maker through a beloved hierloom to say "Hey, I see you! Good job!" 🤩🧵🪡🙌

I'm working on a quilt made with tshirts I've collected from ! My family and I have spent a lot of time participating in this event for years. Whether I'm playing drums with , watching my dad shred axe, helping my daughter through a kimono demo with grandma, or selling sauce with my sisters, husband and kids, it's easy to say this event holds a lot of significance for my family in many ways. I'm grateful to be able to create something that holds these memories in something that will last for generations! I'm experimenting with moving away from the traditional rectangular grid style of tshirt quilt to something more unique. We'll see what happens!

If you have similar events, traditions, or experiences you would like commemorated in a tshirt quilt heirloom such as this, please get in touch! I would love to help ❤️
