This is what Try Hockey for Free is all about. ๐Ÿ’โค๏ธ

For some of these kids, Saturday night was their very first time holding a hockey stick. For others, it was one of their first times even stepping onto the ice. And they had a whole crew there to help them every step of the way.

From holding a hand while they found their balance, to helping them learn how to use a stick, to cheering them on when they made it across the ice, we could not have asked for a better group of coaches and volunteers.

A HUGE thank you to our Kankakee Coyotes and Kankakee Irish Hockey players, parents and coaches, along with the Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena staff and coaches who gave their Saturday night to help introduce a new group of kids to hockey. We were so impressed by the patience, encouragement and kindness you showed every single skater.

And to all of the families who joined us for Try Hockey for Free, thank you for giving hockey a try with us! We hope there are a few future hockey players in these photos. ๐Ÿ˜€ We loved having you on the ice, and we hope to see you back soon!

One of the best things about learning to skate is that thereโ€™s no single path. Some skaters are here to build confidence and have fun. Some discover figure skating. Some head toward hockey. Some fall in love with performing, competing or testing.

And every one of those journeys starts with learning the basics. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Swipe through for a look at the skating pathway at Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena, from our youngest beginners all the way through hockey, Advanced Freeskate, Academy and beyond.

If youโ€™ve been thinking about giving skating a try this fall, this is your sign. Thereโ€™s a place to start, and weโ€™ll help you figure out exactly where that is.
