SUN Oct 11 ~ John Keawe is a Grammy and multiple Na Hoku Hanohano award winning slack-key (Kiho`alu) guitarist, composer and recording artist. John’s music is infused with the spirit of Aloha and is reflective of many elements personal to him. He has recorded several albums, bringing Hawaiian slack-key into the homes of people from around the world. John is often joined by his lovely wife Hope dancing hula.

Guitarist and vocalist Marcus Rezak brings GUMBO to Hawaii this October for seven performances celebrating the music and improvisational spirit of Phish’s legendary 1.0 era. Spanning Oahu, Maui and the Big Island, the tour combines intricate compositions, deep funk, psychedelic exploration and spontaneous musical interplay with the atmosphere of the Hawaiian Islands.

GUMBO draws inspiration from the sound and adventurous approach of Phish’s formative years, particularly the concerts of the 1990s. Familiar songs and deep cuts become starting points for extended improvisation, unexpected transitions and musical conversations that develop differently each night.

A Chicago native, Rezak holds a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music and a master’s degree in jazz composition from DePaul University. His extensive touring and recording career includes collaborations with musicians associated with Trey Anastasio Band, Umphrey’s McGee, Frank Zappa, Little Feat and Blues Traveler. He also leads Shred Is Dead, his improvisational project celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead.

Joining Rezak for the Hawaii tour are Anna Elva on drums, David Barsky on bass and JD Tolstoi on keys. Throughout the tour, the quartet will explore the compositions, patient builds, rhythmic shifts and open improvisation that made Phish’s 1.0 era so distinctive. For longtime Phans, GUMBO offers a connection to a formative chapter of the band’s history. For new listeners, it offers an inviting introduction to music built around discovery and collective creativity.

Uncle Charlie celebrates the Grateful Dead's Europe '72 tour at the Blue Dragon Tavern in Kawaihae, HI (Big Island) on Friday, October 23.

The Dead's spring 1972 European tour spanned 22 dates from April 6 to May 26, 1972. It featured the debut of new songs like "Jack Straw" and "He's Gone," introduced keyboardist Keith Godchaux and vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux, and marked the final tour for founding member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan.

Uncle Charlie will be performing songs that were featured on this infamous tour, putting their own spin on the songs...with the usual mind-bending psychedelic jams the band has become known for. Featuring Steve Fundy (guitar), Warren Nelson (keys), Dave Ojeda (bass), Tim Taylor (drums), and special guest Jeff Silberman (keys).

Brother Noland is an impactful player in Hawaiʻi’s music scene and one of Hawaiʻi’s most respected artists. He is a storyteller at heart and music is how he shares his stories. Music is a portal – sounds, melody and lyrics can transport you back in time, connect you to a familiar feeling, or inspire you in the moment. Seeing him live on stage, you will step into an experience and embark on a journey to what he calls the “Crazy Aloha Music”. Always so happy, inspiring and ready to deliver. Brother Noland will keep you engaged, as he sings you sweet music, like poetry to your ears, in hopes that you will listen, not just hear, the underlying harmony he so wishes to share with you and the entire world.

Brother Noland is a legacy Hawaiian artist who has deeply influenced contemporary Hawaiian music. For nearly 40 years, he has filled the airwaves with original compositions that have become local classics and island treasures. He is most famous for timeless hits such as “Coconut Girl” and “Are You Native”, and is often credited with the birth of “Jawaiian” contemporary style music by infusing traditional Hawaiian music with reggae, jazz and blues sounds. He has won numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards including Best Reggae Album and most recently the Slack Key Kiho’alu Legacy Award in 2018. His music is featured in several movies including “Pineapple Express” and “Snakes in the Plane.” Brother Noland is a regular stage performer that brings his classics to his fans and audiences, along with traditional Hawaiian music, slack key, and Hawaiian swing music. Brother Noland was honored in 2014 by the State of Hawai’i with a “Lifetime Achievement in Music” award and is a recipient of Hawai’i Academy of Recording Arts highest award, the Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2019.

SPARKLE & SHINE THEME PARTY! Break out those sequins, glitter, and beads and let your inner sparkle child shine!

BASS BIAS features the dynamic bass playing duo of Delphina Dorrance on upright bass and Dave Ojeda on electric bass. These two bassists blend together seamlessly elements of rock, reggae, funk, and psychedelia to create a sound all their own. No strangers to the Hawaii music scene, Blue Dragon proprietor Delphina performs in the Pau Hana Pickers, Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Maui Chamber and Pops Orchestras….while Dave is a core member of Uncle Charlie. Bass Bias covers a wide variety of artists from Bob Marley to the White Stripes, and also performs original songs penned by Delphina. Joining them will be Jonathan Brooke on guitar, Tim Taylor on drums, and Warren Nelson on keyboard (plus a few of our musical friends…you’ll just have to show up to find out who!).

The Pau Hana Pickers will kick things off with their special brand of Americana, folk, rock, and country. Featuring Jonathan Brooke on guitar/vocals, Delphina Dorrance on upright bass/vocals, and Jeff Quin on fiddle.
