We’re hosting a play at the shop this month! Come check it out!
Here’s what Director Ynika Yuag had to say about their return to Q***r Theatre Kalamazoo to direct “Pillow Fortress”: “I am thrilled to direct the regional premiere of “Pillow Fortress” by Aysha Zackria at Q***r Theatre Kalamazoo. Aysha's voice as a Q***r, Pakistani-American playwright who speaks to issues of power, social responsibility, and coming of age with such sharp and funny dialogue is exactly the kind of work that Kalamazoo needs ... especially as we continuously wrestle with what it means for young adults to show up for each other even when the s**t hits the fan. I remain grateful to QTK for championing new work from Q***r artists that represents all the complicated, touching, and ultimately hilarious ways that we create community.”
Yuag’s directing credits include "Dance Again" (Q***r Theatre Kalamazoo), “Don’t Feed the Pigeons” (Gwydion Theatre Company), “Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine” (Face Off Theatre Company), “Booths” (Grand Rapids Civic Theatre), and the annual devised project “The Abortion Monologues” with Kalamazoo College's Center for Civic Engagement. They have served as an intimacy choreographer at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, Face Off Theatre Company, Georgetown University, Jewish Theatre Grand Rapids, and NextStop Theatre Company. They’ve also served as dramaturg at NextStop Theatre Company, The Vagrancy, Breaking the Binary Theatre, and Face Off Theatre Company. Ynika is a 2023 Lin-Manuel Miranda Family Fellow in New Work at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, artist with Solas Nua/The Everyman Cork's Tales of Two Cities mentorship and artist development program, and will soon be a Certified Sensitivity Specialist through Ann James & Associates. They are a proud Indigenous, Q***r, Immigrant artist with a BA in Theatre Arts and Psychology from Kalamazoo College. Learn more at ynikayuag.com.
