DON'T DOUBT about the creative process:
We challenge our students to dive deeper into the elements of Dance Composition such as Time, Space, Energy, Shape. Giving the various assignments to explore & develop their movement language.  Here is one of our students experience :

Creating this dance definitely had its challenges but the outcome made it all worth it. We started by just looking at a painting and coming up with moves on our own describing what we saw. Then joining with another student to combine our moves together to make up a phrase. It was challenging not having the music to create [music was intentionally introduced later] and just going off one another’s ideas. We were given the music after we had created most of the dance, which made it hard to create but it was amazing to see how everything came together and fit with the music in the end. This piece “Don’t Doubt” was choreographed in Kona during our training phase of the school but we took it to Costa Rica to film on the San Jose base during the beginning of our outreach.

"For me choreographing for composition [without using music] is always a bit a struggle because I relate so much to music. So having most of our creative process be without music was sometimes really hard. And even when I heard the music for the piece later I wondered how it would ever work since it was so different than any of us had thought. But it was amazing how when we finally put it all together,  the movement and the music, it worked perfectly! I mean PERFECTLY. We didn’t have to change, slow down or speed up one thing. It just fit right in! It was a reminder to me that it is good to step outside the box and go out of your comfort zone when creating. It definitely makes me stronger and more diverse as an artist!"

Yes! Yes! Yes! SAVE THE DATE! PROJECT DANCE & YWAM are coming together to partner in this event. We will have the beloved, epic 3-day Project Dance Event!! We are so stoked to bring this to our island for ALL dancers of all styles and backgrounds. We are so excited to welcome the international family of Project Dance to come to our little rock in the middle of the pacific for an amazing Project Dance Hawaii event!

Immediately followed by we will continue the 20th Anniversary celebrations for Project Dance with a REFUEL💥 (retreat/refresher) for dancers and dance leaders who want to lean in and ask the Lord what's on his heart for the NEXT 20 Years of Dance ministry/missions!

We worship JESUS, first and foremost. Not our feelings, not peer pressure, but JESUS. 🙏 JESUS continue to lead us into worship. ....minutes after this video worship/dance leaders brought their two 4 year olds on stage to show us how to worship with abandon 🙌

We hold dance in worship very highly. We make it a priority to spend time in worship with our medium (dance) weekly. From that "worship closet" we then build a heart posture to join the worship team. And it is always so FUN, and FREEING, and HUMBLING to worship JESUS in this way.

𝕊𝕥𝕦𝕕𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕊𝕡𝕠𝕥𝕝𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥: 𝕄𝕠𝕣𝕚𝕒𝕙 𝕄𝕔ℂ𝕝𝕦𝕣𝕖. This. Girl. Right. Here. 🌍 Changer. The calling we each carry has a cost. Moriah has walked, experienced, and come through many of those costs already, and continues on in her calling as a Dancing-Missionary. She grew up on the mission field with her family! Through many miracle she was able to train in ballet diligently on the mission field. With workshops, intensives, summer intensives, accepted into studio company, and yet when those things weren't available to her she would research until she could find ballet classes online. That diligence has paid off - she continues to exemplify an artist who is pursuing excellence in their craft. When she came to UOFN Kona, it was through diligent prayer after considering other options available to her to pursue her dance degree. This year's School of Dance was not a one off for her. I am so proud to say she has completed all the courses needed to receive: Foundational Associate of Arts with an Emphasis in Dance from the ! The 2-year degree program she completed included: DTS, Bible Core Course, Applied Christian Thinking Core Course, Communication Core Course, and School of Dance. In addition to those courses credited to her, her time with YWAM/UofN has also included staffing with DTS; attending Dance Track with Revival & Reformation Course; and UOFN Kona's Dance Company Practicum with & . After completing her School of Dance, one of our Master Guest Faculty invited Moriah to attend Residency Program in Dallas, TX where she will be continuing her journey in her calling as a Dancing-Missionary. We are all so proud of you for never giving up, and pressing on no matter the cost. Keep dancing Moriah!

From me it has been a joy being your Academic Advisor with UOFN, the last photo in this post says it all 😉 As I tell many of our students, this is not a completion, this is a commissioning. I know there's more to come!

So very proud of these 5 wonderful women who are holding their Certificates of Completion for 's School of Dance, YWAM Kona. I tell people over and over again, this school is no joke. It is very challenging. Not only are we challenging your skills, we are challenging your knowledge in dance, as well as your character. One minute you're concerned about being underchallenged, the next you're stressing about being overchallenged, then your performing in pristine conditions in an amazing venue, and the next your dancing outside on the street in the pouring rain, the next moment your shows are being canceled, but then you have a surprise dance class with 30 children, the next moment you have a class with 2 teens, and don't forget you still need to read your book and turn in your assignment(s) that are due, and help clean and prepare your own teams dinner. 🥴🙃😉 Character, Skill, and Knowledge it's a challenging trio, but the payoff is a deeper relationship with the Lord. Leaning further into his voice, grace, truth, love, and excellence. In general, the UofN hears from people all over the world, that our students are some of the most humble and servant-hearted they've encountered. I'm especially proud of this crew who every host during their outreach gave the feedback that they were impressed by team's excellence. Their excellence in their performances, costumes, stage presence, teaching, as well as their excellence in how they conducted themselves behind the scenes with cleaning up after themselves and serving in ministry. School of Dance YWAM Kona 2021, you did it! Praise Jesus!! Now keep running the good race forward because your names are written in the Book, and keep praying for the next wave! 🌊💃
