The images, colorful, bold, dynamic, explode off the pages, eliciting a kind of tug-and-pull that encourages those who crack open the front cover of artist Ruby Mazur’s first autobiography. 13”x13” hard cover coffee table book “Get Up...And Move On” and takes you on a journey that only the man himself could have embarked upon and lived to tell about it.
Mazur’s story is an incredible one that recalls the chapter of his childhood as a young boy in Brooklyn, New York, who voraciously loved to draw, to his later years as a student at the School of Visual Arts and Philadelphia College of Art, all the way to becoming one of the most prominent artists in Rock and Roll history. His legacy includes paintings of such luminaries as Elvis, Amy Winehouse, Jerry Garcia, Elton John and countless others, along with the creation of thousands of album covers for some of music’s most legendary artists, including the “Mouth and Tongue” design for The Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice” record sleeve, which is displayed in his book as well as his celebrity friends and collectors.
The book also reveals the many obstacles Mazur encountered along the way-heartache, divorce, poverty, an apartment/studio fire that destroyed everything he owned except for the clothes on his back and a bout with childhood polio, which threatened to cripple him for life, but, miraculously, did not. His resilience and determination to not let these factors defeat him, but rather turned him into a force with which to be reckoned is the reason Ruby Mazur’s motto “Get Up And Move On” is what inspires him to do each and every day...
Create the magic of Rock and Roll through his work for the rest of us to enjoy and celebrate. Rock On Ruby … Rock On!
