I’m pretty much in love with this new Punk Rock Christmas playlist so I’m going to tell you about two songs on it every day. It’s like an advent calendar except not some waxy chocolate and instead some awesome punk rock songs.

Song #1 on this playlist is El Sancho - Merry Christmas Motherf**kers. Why is it first? Because I wrote this song, motherf**kers! My dumb band made a whole album of stupid Christmas songs this year and this is one of them. It’s about getting drunk and shirking your responsibilities and being a fu***ng moron. It is mostly a funny song but as it turns out, it is not funny to me at all. I’ve been forgetting a ton of s**t lately. Mostly stupid stuff, like which days I need to pack a Lunchable in my kid’s lunchbox. But sometimes I forget real stuff too. One day last month I took my kid to school and brought my dog in the back seat of the truck, which is pretty normal because he likes to go for rides. Before we left for school I was working on the mix for this song. When I came home I had this song in my head and I knew what I needed to do to finish it. So I parked the truck, locked the door and went inside. And forgot all about the fu***ng dog. 6 hours later my wife took the car to pick up our kid from school and when he came home he asked where the dog was. We looked all over the house, all over the yard, and then I ran out to the truck and found him. He didn’t make it. Because I was focused on finishing this song instead of thinking about him. S**T. Merry Christmas, motherf**kers.

So if you’e wondering why I don’t want any cheery, schlocky Christmas songs on this playlist, that’s a big part of it. That brings us to song #2, Rum Nogs, by the Canadian killers Burning Nickels. “The only way to stop the noise is drinking rum nogs with the boys” is how I have felt the last month. Emotional pain hurts and you shouldn’t numb it with alcohol but sometimes that’s the simplest cure.

Hey we made another playlist! This is a Christmas-themed Spotify playlist, but not the normal kind. I hate Christmas songs and the last thing I need to hear is some pop punk band covering Silent Night again. This playlist is 90 minutes of original punk rock songs with a holiday theme. No cheeseball stuff here, all bangers thanks to rad bands like Burning Nickels The Gobs**tes Good Clean Fun El Sancho The Qu**rs Cobra Skulls and many more!

Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

I did a big playlist shuffle-o-rama this week and brought in a ton of rad new tunes from around the world. Here's a few standouts! Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Robbie Morön - Becky Slater

This smooth-voiced Canuck Moron (I mean that in a good way) covers the important topics on his new EP Palooka Haymaker. While Winnie Cooper’s legacy outlasted the Wonder Years, we all know Becky Slater was the real catch on the show. Robbie may be a moron, but he got this one right.

Heart A Tact- Nerve

These German pop-punkers are led by singer Annalena’s strong and catchy voice. I’m dusting off my Discount records and getting ready to pogo. They swiped their name from a killer Kid Dynamite song and I’m not even mad about that. When you’re finished with this song go check out their 2018 album Connect the Disconnected, it is worth many repeated listens.

Buckled - 13 F***s

How many f***s? 13 f***s these guy’s don’t give. Aussie Oi Oi Oi pub rock sped up so fast you gotta give a f**k or twelve. S**t, maybe 13 even. Really funny lyrics and solid tunes.

29.August - Mesto
Street punk from the streets of Slovakia. Solid meat head rock and roll ala the Oi greats. Fits in great with the Business, C**k Sparrer, but also Twisted Sister and AC/DC. That’s how you know they did it right. I don’t speak Slovakian but I think these songs are about overthrowing the government and they’d be right at home at your local football match, or at the pub afterwards.
@29.august_band

Teen Mortgage - Smoked
This DC duo starts with a wall of feedback and drags their poppy melodies through Sonic Youthy sludge and take me straight to the Pacific Northwest in the 1990s with some serious KARP (except no bass…) and Federation X vibes.

Check out some of the latest updates to the playlist! Tons of killer tunes coming out recently. Some of my favorites:

The Cutthroat Brothers + Mike Watt - Like a Zombie
It’s Halloween weekend so what better way to kick off the playlist than a creepy zombie song featuring two barbers and Mike Watt? Be sure to check out the animated video they just released for this too.

Bury My Heart - Incremental
3rd single from this cross-country duo. Billy Edwin put out an excellent alt-country/punk album last year and then teamed up with his former Ten Foot Pole bandmate Kevin Ruggeri as “Bury My Heart” to record songs that are more in the melodic hardcore/punk vein. This third single is so my favorite from the band.

Capgun Heroes- That Girl
Classic 90s-style Chicago punk rock from these old dudes singing about girls. Qu**rs, Screeching Weasel, MTX, you get the picture. This would have fit right in the Lookout Records catalog in 1996.

Call in Sick - Fu**ed Up Mess
If I found this on a blank cassette tape I’d assume it was a lost Undertones demo from the 70s. The recording quality is questionable but possibly in an intentional way. The pulsing compression on the rhythm section gives space for the anthemic vocals to be front and center and sounds like it was recorded on an old 4 track tape machine. I dig it.

College Radio - Better Daze
Can’t figure out album art for your new single? No problem, just recreate Jawbreaker’s classic Unfun cover, everybody’s doing it. This Seattle band gets a pass for that because they’re really good. I first heard their song “I Used to Get Messed Up” last year and have been following with interest ever since. This is a slowed down, depressing sing along about missed opportunities.

The Lashes - Den
Lo-fi punk rock from Iran! This is bad ass. Reminds me of Mission of Burma, Minutemen, Meat Puppets style of chaos. No idea what they’re singing about but I’m singing along. Find them on Instagram
