We have a limited supply of washed and combed pygora goat fiber! Perfect as a little souvenir for spinning or felting. More on the way as we continue to process it.

Pygora goats are a newer breed, a cross between angora and Pygmy goats. Juneau does not currently have any sheep, just goats, although there are a few in the region.

Dahlia, Iris and Dandelion are sheared twice a year. We have lots to keep processing by hand.

Are YOU a fiber nerd?? 🤓 🐑 🧶

Then you’re in luck because this First Friday Tess Olympia (Juneau Woolies owner and dyer) will share our new color systems! We have two color wheels in progress. One was a success and will be released on Friday! The other… is verrry green. Why??? Come and find out what happened and what we’ll try next. I mean green is great but that wasn’t the goal.

Sneak peek! 👀 We’ve been working on some fun things over here.

We’ll be releasing new colors on our 2-ply weft very soon! The goal is to make our own color wheel that this set will be based from. Essentially all colors in the set will work together because they have the same base dyes and approximately the same saturation. Rather than deciding colors on a whim, which is fun but can be too random for a cohesive project.

Some colors may get replaced over time, but not until we settle on the best ones!

We had such an amazing time at the Mat-Su Valley Fiber Festival festival! We packed our trip with a special visit to the Musk Ox Farm 🗻 Palmer ☆ Alaska (highly recommend), reindeer farm (with yak and highland cows), and even came home with one little cutie (last pic - not a muskox or yak sadly 😂). A moose family visited our cabin and we met so many lovely fiber artists! Our last stop was a visit to the The Knotty Poplar Homestead and Fiber Mill fiber mill. I learned so much.

I may have come home with more fiber than I brought 🤣

Stay tuned for some fun things heading to the shop!

Sometimes the unexpected happens when dyeing yarn. I threw a unique yarn into the pot. It wasn’t exhausting the dye completely so I added another skein to soak up the remainder and then *magic* we get this completely different color in the same pot!

Why? The tealish blue color wasn’t bonding to the skeins. Maybe there was too much dye in the pot. Maybe it was moody. Maybe it was Monday. I love how it turned out and I love getting these surprises. It keeps things interesting.

Today we’re at the APK for the Family Fun Fair! 1-4pm

When I was a kid I made a wish stick which was just a stick with a wish written on paper wrapped around the stick and then yarn wrapped all over it. I kept it for years and years. So today through Juneau Woolies, we get to pass on the same bit of magic ✨

May your wishes come true!

Trans Lives Matter! 🏳️‍⚧️ We brought back this lovely colorway for Pride month. Trans rights are human rights. Most people agree with this (bipartisan issue), and yet over 700 anti trans bills have been introduced this legislative session. That number is up from the year before and the year before. It is having real and detrimental effects on trans people of all ages. Keep being loud, keep calling legislators, keep having conversations and keep supporting trans people!
