Thank You to Our Goldbelt Interns!

The summer has sailed by and at Goldbelt it is time for our second cohort of interns to say goodbye. Shareholder Services is grateful to have had a second summer with our two departmental interns, Crystal Harkins and Addison Wilson. They have inspired the office with their positive energy while stepping up to handle multiple projects along the way. Their vital contributions have supported the department and the corporation as a whole. Their future is bright and we can't wait to support them in their educational and career endeavors. Gunalchéesh!

✨ Intern Spotlight: Jamal Johnson ✨

Through the Goldbelt Internship Program, Jamal Johnson is building a strong foundation for a future in healthcare. Jamal is studying pre-nursing with an interest in exercise physiology. Through his externship with SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC), he’s gaining valuable hands-on experience before becoming a full-time nursing student. He shadowed in the surgery and ER departments while at the new Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center in Sitka. He also got to meet with first responders at the Sitka Fire Hall as part of SEARHC's Ethel Lund Village Health Occupations Program.

After attending Fort Lewis College, Jamal is transferring to the University of Alaska Anchorage to pursue his nursing degree. While he’s still open to different specialties, his goal is to become a registered nurse and make a meaningful impact in patient care.

Originally from Juneau, Jamal enjoys working out, spending time with friends, and making the most of time with his family.

✨ Intern Spotlight: Addison Wilson ✨

Addison Wilson is entering her second year at Northwest Indian College in Bellingham, Washington, on the Lummi Reservation, where she is pursuing a General Direct Transfer associate degree. She is also returning for her second year as a Goldbelt intern in Shareholder Services after enjoying the supportive environment, valuable experience, and strong sense of community she found last year.

“I loved being here last year because of the community and joy the office brought me, and I’m so glad I decided to come back and experience and learn more!”

Originally from Juneau, Alaska, Addison plays basketball for her college team, the NWIC Lady Eagles, and in her free time she enjoys going for walks and being with friends and family. While she is still exploring her future career path, she’s excited to continue learning, growing, and making the most of every opportunity during her internship.

Goldbelt Aaní is more than a development project. It's an opportunity to create a place that reflects our Tlingit values, culture, and connection to this place for generations to come.

To help guide that work, Goldbelt is seeking proposals for an Indigenous Cultural Advisor to support the respectful, authentic, and place-based integration of Tlingit culture throughout the Goldbelt Aaní Development Project.

The advisor will help Goldbelt identify the appropriate cultural authorities, knowledge holders, Elders, artists, Tribal governments, cultural organizations, and community partners while providing strategic guidance throughout planning, design, construction, and future operations.

Many of our shareholders have deep connections across Southeast Alaska and beyond. If you know an individual, organization, or team with experience in Indigenous cultural leadership, engagement, or advisory work, we encourage you to share this opportunity with them.

Finding the right advisor is an important step in helping ensure Goldbelt Aaní reflects our commitment to respectful engagement, cultural stewardship, and future generations.
