🇺🇸 AMERICA’S STORY — SAVED UNTIL 2276

America’s story is being preserved in a truly remarkable way. 🇺🇸✨

As part of the Library of Congress America 250: It’s Your Story celebration, visitors can currently explore “The Declaration’s Promise” — an exhibition featuring some of the nation’s most treasured historic documents, including Thomas Jefferson’s rough draft of the Declaration of Independence and Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. 📜

But there is an even more fascinating America 250 angle behind this story.

The Library of Congress has also created a special project that stores selected national treasures on synthetic DNA for a time capsule planned to be opened in 2276, during America’s 500th anniversary. 🧬⏳

That means some of America’s most important ideas and documents are not only being remembered today — they are being protected for future generations far beyond our own lifetime.

From 1776… to 2026… to 2276 — America’s story continues. ❤️🤍💙

Which part amazes you more — the Declaration and Gettysburg treasures, or the idea of America’s history being saved on DNA for the future?

🔥⚡🇺🇸 67 MILLION AMERICANS: EXTREME HEAT PUSHES THE POWER GRID TOWARD ITS LIMIT

A brutal wave of extreme heat is putting enormous pressure on one of America’s most important electricity systems today.

PJM Interconnection — the nation’s largest regional power grid — serves roughly 67 MILLION PEOPLE across a huge area stretching from parts of the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic.

As temperatures soar and millions of homes and businesses turn up their air conditioning, electricity demand is climbing sharply. PJM has activated emergency operating procedures designed to keep enough generating capacity available and protect the reliability of the grid. ⚡🌡️

The concern is simple: when extreme heat drives electricity demand close to available supply, the risk of power shortages and localized outages can increase.

⚠️ Important: This does not mean 67 million Americans are currently without electricity. The 67 million figure represents the population served by the PJM grid — the system now operating under unusually heavy pressure.

For millions of Americans dealing with dangerous heat, keeping the lights — and especially the air conditioning — running is more important than ever. 🇺🇸⚡

Has the extreme heat affected electricity or air conditioning where you live?

🏊‍♀️🇺🇸 AT 64, SHE SWAM FROM CUBA TO FLORIDA — 13 YEARS AGO TODAY

On September 2, 2013, Diana Nyad completed one of the most extraordinary endurance challenges ever attempted. 🌊

At 64 years old, she reached Key West, Florida, after swimming roughly 110 miles from Cuba — without a shark cage.

The journey took about 53 hours. That meant battling exhaustion, powerful currents, open-ocean conditions and the limits of the human body. But she kept going. 💪🌊

What made the moment even more powerful was her age.

At a time when many people are told to slow down, Diana Nyad proved that determination does not come with an expiration date. ❤️

🌊 For 73 years, the Titanic lay in complete darkness — carrying the silence of more than 1,500 lives lost beneath the Atlantic.

Then, on September 1, 1985, that silence was finally broken. 🚢🔦

A joint American-French expedition led by oceanographer Robert Ballard and Jean-Louis Michel located the wreck of the RMS Titanic roughly 12,500 feet below the surface of the North Atlantic.

Researchers first discovered a trail of debris scattered across the ocean floor. Following it through the darkness, they eventually reached the remains of the ship that had become one of history’s most haunting maritime tragedies.

Titanic had sunk on April 15, 1912, after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage. More than 1,500 passengers and crew never made it home. 🕯️

When the wreck finally appeared on explorers’ screens in 1985, it was more than the discovery of a lost ship. It was a powerful connection to a night of courage, fear, sacrifice, and heartbreaking loss that the world had remembered for generations.

Today, the Titanic still rests deep beneath the Atlantic — slowly being reclaimed by the ocean, but never forgotten. 🌊💙

More than a century later, why do you think the story of Titanic still touches so many people?

🥾🇺🇸 AT 91, “GREY BEARD” MAKES APPALACHIAN TRAIL HISTORY

At 91 years old, Dale “Grey Beard” Sanders has reclaimed the record as the oldest person to complete a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail — one of America’s most legendary outdoor challenges. 🌄👏

Sanders completed the journey in sections, ultimately reaching the finish atop Mount Katahdin in Maine. The trek covered more than 2,190 miles and tested his determination again and again. 🥾⛰️

And this wasn’t his first time making history. Sanders originally became the oldest Appalachian Trail thru-hiker at 82 in 2017. After that record was surpassed in 2021, he decided to take on the enormous challenge again — this time in his 90s. 💪❤️

His latest journey was anything but easy. Sanders counted 71 falls along the way, including several hard ones, yet he kept moving toward his goal. His achievement has turned into something bigger than a record — a reminder that determination and adventure don’t have an expiration date. 🇺🇸✨

91 years old. Thousands of miles. One unforgettable finish. 🥾🏔️

❤️ Would you attempt a major adventure like this at 91?
