Two and a half years in the making,with determination and a dream. Tony was Born and raised in Greensboro,North Carolina,he started singing at a very young age. In his 20's Tony went to Nashville supported by a growing local fan club to record his own music. Although praised for his talents, Tony decided that he would return home and build his own theatre. t of the Year four consecutive years at the North Carolina State Fair. In May 2001,construction began on the Barn Dance Theatre. Tony Straughn,his dad Toby and a handful of friends built the structure from the ground up! The house band,The Barnyard Bandits,play each Saturday night.The band has some of the best musicians and entertainers in the south. On February 16, 2002,
The Barn Dance debuted to a standing room only crowd and actually had to turn crowds away due to capacity. The Barn Dance remains a popular place each Saturday night and is 19 years strong. The Barn Dance is nestled in the farmland of southeast Guilford County and at first glance, it appears to be a large workshop. Just wait until you walk inside! Reminiscent of the Grand Ole Opry, The Barn Dance is decorated with country music memorabilia and antiques. Inside the theatre, murals depicting rolling hills and farmland gives one the feeling of being at a true outside barn dance along with the overhead 16 ft. double winged WWI barn stormer plane,custom built by Tony.The lobby is also decorated with hand-painted murals of legendary singers such as Elvis Presley, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty and Hank Williams.
