Sofia Badaoui grew up with one foot in France and the other in Morocco. As an artist, she has created CALIKESH, a project that draws from thousands of years of tradition, while envisioned for contemporary spaces. Each rug is designed in Badaoui’s studio in Yucca Valley California. The colors are made using painstakingly harvested local Moroccan dyes such as saffron, as well as colors derived from various roots, flowers and plants. By partnering with artisans in Morocco, many of whom are relatives, Sofia bridges the two cultures, while also celebrating the similar landscapes of California’s Mojave Desert and her beloved Morocco.

The music of Little Mazarn is a cool float a few feet from the ground through a dimly lit, almost familiar forest. It is quieter than silence, big as everything, still but always moving.
Join us May 21 at 7pm at Hey There Projects for an evening with Little Mazarn, the Austin-based duo crafting hushed, hypnotic folk that drifts somewhere between dream and memory. Led by Dallas natives Lindsey Verrill (banjo, voice) and Jeff Johnston (singing saw), their sound is slow, spacious, and deeply intentional.
Part of a rich Texas music lineage, their work sits alongside artists like Bill Callahan, Dana Falconberry, Patty Griffin, Daniel Johnston, and bands like Okkervil River, but moves at its own unhurried pace.
While you’re here, catch this month’s gallery show featuring ceramics by Laura Cooper and handwoven rugs by Sofia Badaoui.
Free and open to all. Come hang, listen, and settle into the evening.
