Some difficult things have happened in 2024 and I’ve been away from my wheel both at home and the studio I go to for most of it. November felt like a good time to return. It’s a slow return, but a return nonetheless. Today of all days felt like a good one to be in the studio, so I spent the evening focused on my clay rather than on the current state of affairs.

Tried a new clay body (dragon fruit) and am finding it difficult to work with, but I did manage to throw a nice 5 1/2 pound bowl with even walls(!!!)… and then proceeded to think, “just one more pull.” 🙄
So now it’s flipped over and gonna try and make lemonade out of lemons 🍋

When I began this pottery journey, I struggled with and despised trimming and creating a “foot” on my pieces. Now, it’s a challenge I look forward to improving on. It’s amazing what shifts can occur when we open our minds to the things we are so against. For now, I’m limiting my making/studio time to three hours a week and I miss it, but it will be worth it in the long run. In the meantime, I’ll celebrate my small achievements, like successfully throwing a seven pound bowl that I can say I’m proud of and look forward to trimming and adding a foot to next week 😊
