This week, Storytelling Live welcomes award-winning actress, singer, and storyteller April Armstrong to Jonesborough!

April’s journey into storytelling began in the third grade, when a performance in a school play earned her an invitation to return and reprise her solo for the fifth-grade class. Her reward? Cake, ice cream—and the beginning of a calling she’s followed ever since.

Today, April weaves music, melodies, and words into captivating multicultural folktales and historic stories, creating performances that celebrate the many voices and traditions that shape our world.

See April live in Jonesborough Tuesday–Saturday at 2 p.m., or enjoy her virtual performance from Friday to Friday—giving you a full week to watch from wherever you are.

This week, Tim is bringing classic fairy tales, forgotten stories, and plenty of humor to Jonesborough. With a background in theater and a knack for finding the surprising in the familiar, his performances are a fresh take on stories you thought you knew.

He has shows the rest of the week at 2 p.m. Can’t make it in person? Stream Tim’s performance beginning Friday at 2 p.m. ET!

Here in Tennessee, we are mourning the loss of Dolly Parton in a deeply personal way.

Dolly was loved by the world, but Tennessee was her home. And throughout her life, she shared the stories of Appalachia, Tennessee, and the people she loved through her music. She was, in every sense, a storyteller.

Her love of stories extended beyond song. Through Dolly’s Imagination Library, more than 300 million books have been gifted to children around the world, helping millions of young readers discover the joy and possibility found in a story.

There’s a saying that someone lives on as long as their name is spoken. By that measure, Dolly Parton will live forever; in her songs, her stories, the books she put into children’s hands, and her unending love for Appalachia and Tennessee.

Kick off fall with Ghost Stories at the National Storytelling Festival

- Friday, October 2 & Saturday, October 3
- 7:30 – 9 PM
- Mill Spring Park

This outdoor concert of ghostly tales is the perfect way to spend a fall evening. Storytellers Tim Lowry and Connie Regan-Blake will be telling stories along with other Festival storytellers. Bring your own chairs or blankets—seating is on the ground only—and come prepared for any kind of weather. The stories are spooky but not too scary, recommended for ages 10 and up.
