ANDREW'S TOP 10 MOST-PLAYED MUSICAL KEYS
I compiled this list today for fun. I took all the songs in my solo-performance setlist, and organized them by what key they're in. Then I counted how many songs I knew in each key, and ranked they keys from most-commonly-played to least-commonly-played.
Here they are!
Starting off is my honorable mention, ranked
Number 11: F-sharp Major: 1 song.
Number 10: two-way tie between g-sharp minor and b-flat minor: 3 songs each.
Number 9: c-sharp minor: 4 songs
Number 8: four-way tie between e-flat minor, f-sharp minor, b minor, and B-flat Major: 5 songs each.
Number 7: two-way tie between B Major and f minor: 6 songs each
Number 6: five-way tie between D-flat Major, E Major, A Major, d minor and g minor: 7 songs each.
Number 5: two-way tie between F Major and c minor: 8 songs each.
Number 4: three-way tie between E-flat Major, a minor, and e minor: 10 songs each.
Number 3: G Major: 12 songs.
Number 2: D Major: 13 songs.
Number 1...Big surprise...C Major: 17 songs.
What are your favorite keys? Mine are D-flat Major and F Major.
If you've gotten this far, congratulations; you're a music nerd! Comment on this status by naming a key, and I'll tell you all the songs I play in that key. Just one key per person, please! Disclaimer: some of these are just short jingles, and there are a handful of songs that I only know partially.
