WHY BURKLYN WEDNESDAY w/ Karley Kintner
“To me, ‘the Burklyn family’ means knocking on each other’s doors at 7 am for a quick breakfast before morning warm-up. It’s stretching on the floor and giggling about what costume we’ll wear next Friday. It’s cheering from the wings when someone finally nails a choreography or an impossible pirouette sequence. The Burklyn family saves you a seat at every meal and asks how your sore Achilles is doing. They quickly change out of their costume right after performing just to catch your first Pas and send a video to your mom. They stay up late binge-watching Twilight because you’ve never seen it before. And even years later, they’re still there, supporting you in every win, big or small.”
“What makes Burklyn so special is the immediate sense of belonging. From the moment I was picked up from the airport, I felt a sense of warmth and hospitality from all of the Burklyn staff, and that feeling stayed with me throughout the entire six-week program. It wasn’t just the staff, but the dancers too. Everyone is so supportive, whether it’s in the studio pushing each other to improve, or outside of class just laughing and getting to know one another.”
