Well this is a first for me. After getting my first Shure 545s I loved the characteristic of its mids so much I had to get another. So I bought this one, which is apparently a first generation 545s! The first round which had a “patent pending” label because Shure had not yet been granted the patent! Super cool.

Picked up these 4 mics recently. An RCA Varacoustic, an RCA 74b, a Shure 545, and a Synchron AU7a!! I’m very excited about the Synchron, one of the first FET condensers with a very warm flat frequency response.

I will be restoring all of these mics, I already built a converter cable and tested the Shure 546 so that’s ready for action. Next up is to re-ribbon the 74b and re-wire an XLR for it.

There have been turkey vultures hanging out in trees in front of our house eating a deer carcass the past few days. Well, one of them must have gotten hit by a car and died in our front yard. and I moved it to the back yard. These birds are so amazing, Alyssa and I love watching them when they come back to this area.
