🎶 What a night.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Appalachian Excursion — it was truly a remarkable evening for the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra.

We heard so many kind words throughout the night, including from a visitor who regularly attends the Orlando Philharmonic, who shared that the JCSO was “every bit as good.” Praise like that speaks volumes about the musicians on our stage.

One of the sweetest moments came when a young audience member celebrated her 16th birthday at the symphony, with guest artist Melissa White helping make the night even more special. 🌹

From Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto to the world premiere of Fantasia of Appalachian Hymns, it was a powerful reminder of what live music brings to our community.

At our upcoming Appalachian Excursion concert, the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra will present the world premiere of Fantasia of Appalachian Hymns by composer Dr. Benjamin Dawson.

Inspired by the musical traditions of our region, Dawson built the piece around three beloved American hymn tunes:
“Are You Washed in the Blood,” “Resignation,” and “Pisgah.”

This brand-new orchestral work reflects the spirit and musical heritage of the Appalachian Highlands — making its first-ever performance right here in Johnson City.
