With there only being a few days left in Feb, let me take advantage to share a story that inspired one of my latest artworks “Daisies Don’t Testify”

Daisies Don’t Testify confronts the silence imposed on innocence within systems of confinement. The child’s gaze meets the viewer without appeal, bearing witness rather than seeking rescue. Daisies—symbols of purity and hope—grow alongside the bars, present but powerless. The work questions who is allowed to speak, who is believed, and how early injustice becomes normalized when innocence is left unheard!

The inspiration behind the piece is the wrongful ex*****on of 14 year old George Stinney Jr along with many other examples of weongful convictions/ex*****ons/and way overdue exonerations decades after the wrongfully convicted have died!

George Junius Stinney Jr. was an African American boy who was wrongfully executed at the age of 14 after being convicted, during an unfair trial, for the murders of two white girls – 11-year-old Betty June Binnicker and 8-year-old Mary Emma Thames – in his hometown of Alcolu, South Carolina. The all white jury deliberated for only 10 MINUTES before sentencing a child to death without witness testimony or evidence!

The tragedy that is George Stinney’s story is only a petal in the bouqet of reoccurences identical to this or worse!

Black history is the foundations and vine that bounds American history and I hope to uncover more with future works I create 🌼⛓️‍💥🖤✨🎨
