One of the most fascinating parts of curating this exhibition was finding how perfectly some pieces fit together. At no point in the submission process did we share with the artists who they were being paired with or what color palettes or styles to used. Instead, we asked them to each submit up to 5 pieces so that we could have variety to pick from. Funny enough, many artists like Brasil and Diego, whose works are seen above, only submitted a piece each. The story, colors, and elements still overlapped and reminded us again as curators the importance of intentionally creating space for these exchanges.

Cartas to My Kin 🇵🇦🤝🇺🇸opened this past weekend and we could not be happier. Artists and friends traveled from near and far in support of a project aiming to unite us through curiosity and kindred energy despite the thousands of miles in between us.

Cartas to My Kin is on display Saturdays, 12-6PM, through October 3rd.

Diptych above: Ana Carillo and Layqa Nuna Yawar

Ana’s “Puente” depicts one of Panama’s most emblematic icons representing the unification of Latin America; the Bridge symbolizes Panama’s ability to use creativity and collaboration to bring people and places together. In New Jersey, Laya Nuna Yawar created this mural with Chrystofer Davis and Jasmine Mans to document the collaborative power seen manifested in protests by the People; this power is reflected in the artists as they reflect and witness these historic moments as a guiding light towards a better tomorrow.
