Vermont Open Studio Tour is this weekend! You can find me at the Emile Gruppe Gallery in Jericho giving live painting demos (10am-5pm Sat. & Sun.) and talking about art or whatever anyone wants to talk about! Last night I had a dream that I was talking to a customer service AI robot on my computer and it apologized to me for being a little out of breath because it said it had just come in from the garden. And I was like, I’m sorry, but you’re obviously lying because AI robots can not garden! And you know what else they can’t do? They can’t channel inspiration flowing through the ether to create something from the human soul! The point here is that during Open Studio you get to engage with real artists - actual humans who make it their purpose to bring into being and reflect back the beauty and the experience of life on this earth. You should come! It will be great! And also the weather will be a little cool and cloudy so regardless if you have a gardening AI robot or not, your garden won’t mind if you take some time to sojourn. For my demo I’m planning to paint a view along the Canyon Trail on Mt. Mansfield - from the same recent hike as the painting pictured here:

Just one week away from Vermont Open Studio Weekend. You can find me at the 10-5 on May 23rd and 24th giving live painting demos. I’ll also have new work on display including this fresh new one looking down Sunset Ridge on Mt. Mansfield towards Lake Champlain. Kind of in love with the colors and textures on this one and the way the cloud covered sun is glinting off the lake in the distance. Anyhow, come say hi next weekend, learn about how I approach painting and support your local artists if you can.❤️

The painting in this photo “Winter Beech” was featured on the cover of the 2026 issue of the conservation publication “From the Ground Up” about old forests. For me the painting is about the cycle of rebirth and hope. You can bring a piece of the old forest home with you from the Bryan Gallery in Stowe, VT!

These back to back rainy days we're experiencing here in Vermont make for the best days to visit art galleries. We recommend grabbing a warm coffee or tea from a local cafe, then taking your time to relax and enjoy perspectives from all around the region. You never know what you'll find inside an art gallery!

This photo was taken from inside our gallery located right on Main Street in Stowe, VT.

Happy to get a little closer to the sky on this gorgeous spring day. Valleys are popping with fresh green leaves but the alpine zone is still offering up the muted warmth of the blueberry twigs and overwintered grasses. Inspiration cup full to the brim.

The other day I was prepping for a show and when I pulled this painting of a yellow birch clinging to the edge of a cascade off of my storage shelf I found a gaping hole in the canvas. I must have inadvertently shoved the corner of a frame of another painting into it, and was devastated that my carelessness had led to the loss of a painting. But after the disappointment faded, it dawned on me that I could save the painting by cutting out the damage and re-stretching it on 16X16 stretcher bars. And what I found is that I actually liked this composition better, as what I cut out was an area lacking in much visual interest. Over and over I have found that what I initially perceive as a seback ends up being the universe showing me a better alternative. I made a nice custom frame and it’s back up and available on my website. Kind of ironic, the piece is titled, “Hanging On”.

The Bryan Gallery in Jeffersonville, VT is opening two new juried shows: “Summit Lines”, featuring mountain scenes around New England, and “Roads Taken” showcasing trails and roadways in the rural landscape. I’m happy and honored to have a piece accepted in each show, and hope to see you at the opening reception on Sunday May 10th (1-3 pm). This is also Mother’s Day, so you could bring a mom or drag some kids there (like I’ll be doing with mine). 😉 The shows hang through July 5th.
