Farm life. Trying to stop a chickens nail quick from bleeding at 10:30p after family movie night…

Not always glamorous, but always thankful we are prepared and have a first aid kit for the flock. With the hubs assistance we were able to patch her up as best we could, and got the bleeding to slow down. Now hopefully the toe nail being wrapped and packed with cornstarch (and antibiotic ointment) the hen will be ok come morning.

Chickens die from blood loss… quickly. They don’t have a lot in their little dinosaur bodies. And there sure was a lot in the coop… I am still worried about her. But we did all we could and she was very ready for bed.

Words cannot truly express how thankful we are for the personnel and effort behind managing this fire.

Devastatingly three personnel were taken too early, and two severely injured, in the fires along the Utah and Colorado boarder yesterday. Wild Land firefighters are true heroes…

The McCauley Springs Wildfire is out our front door… while we are currently safe. We are packed and ready to evacuate if the fire shifts our way. We can see the smoke all day and glow at night. Air support flies over our farmstead frequently. The incredible personnel doing all they can, even as more and more support is called in.

I see your messages. And I appreciate all of you so much. If I don’t check back or update you personally, please know your worries and thoughts are taken to heart. Team no sleep is surviving on caffeine and sarcasm. Stay safe yall.

The McCauley Springs Fire is under 5 miles as the raven flies from us. We are actively packing and preparing to evacuate. From what we understand it is now at 150 acres.

Multiple areas have already been evacuated and part of NM4 is shut down in both directions.

We can see the plume and water tankers working to suppress from our farmstead.

Life changes… we adjust and adapt.

FarmHer Alicia is required to stay home for work now, more so than before. So we will only be doing farmstead pickups at this time.
