Southside Philharmonic Orchestra

Going into the archives for this one. This actually pre-dates my personal "official" involvement with SPO. This was my first Southside Philharmonic Orchestra concert. I was there solely as a fan of music, to support Patrick, and to hear this music that I had been hyping on the church page for the past couple of weeks.

I was not disappointed. I said it then, I stand by it now. "One thing is absolutely certain, Carl Burkel is looking down after last evening's performance and beaming with joy at the audacity of performing works of this magnitude in Jefferson City."

This afternoon, in the sanctuary of our host church, Centrak United Church of Christ, Shirley Klein lends her mastery of the organ to the joyous celebration of the Advent season. Those who truly appreciate music will not want to miss this performance.

On Sunday, December 15, Shirley Klein presents a Christmas Organ Recital at 2:00pm at Central United Church of Christ

Shirley Klein has been an organist in Jefferson City for the past 60 years, She is a master of her craft, having trained under Lawrence P. Schreiber and Carl E. Burkel, both of them masters in their own right.

Shirley served as organist at First Christian Church from 1959-1975, in 1975 she joined Central United Church of Christ as choir accompanist, then assistant organist, and then full-time organist in 1995 upon the passing of Carl Burkel. Shirley is a member and past officer of the Central Missouri Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and was a member and officer of the past Jefferson City Music Society.

Shirley considers being an organist a ministry to enhance the worship service and serve the Lord. Anyone who has ever heard her play, understands this. Please join us on Sunday, December 15 at 2:00pm as Shirley celebrates the joyous coming of the Christ child with this Christmas organ recital
