End of an Era at Sharp Mountain Music Barn
After 30 years of bluegrass jams at the Sharp Mountain Music Barn, the time has finally come for us to bring this tradition to a close.
As many of you know, the barn was sold to a new owner last year. Mr. Moore has been nothing but kind and supportive—allowing us to continue hosting the Jasper, Georgia Prayer Meeting as well as our regular Saturday night bluegrass jams. I want to make it very clear that he is NOT asking us to stop. He bought the property to use for his construction business, and with ongoing projects at the old house and equipment being stored on site, we simply feel that we’ve stayed in the way long enough.
We cannot thank Mr. Moore enough for being such a blessing to both the Jasper Prayer Meeting folks and us bluegrass folks.
The Sharp Mountain Barn holds a special place in all of our hearts. It has been a cornerstone of our music, our community, and our culture. Over the years, countless good times and great music have echoed through those walls. We’ve also said goodbye to many friends and musicians who have since gone on to be with the Lord, and their absence is deeply felt. This barn has been part of their story, too.
Between now and October 18th, we’ll be playing the Saturday night jams by ear. Some weeks we may gather, some we may not. Please keep an eye on the Sharp Mountain Music Barn page for updates on whether or not jams will take place in the coming weeks.
On Saturday, October 18th, we’ll gather for one final night of bluegrass at the barn. We’ll open the doors at 6:00 p.m., with the first band taking the stage around 7:00. At least two bands are already lined up—Brad Kaylor & Mineral Bluff Review and Second Edition—and we want to encourage EVERYONE to come. Pickers, listeners, family, friends—if you have a bluegrass band and want to perform that night, we’ll make room for you on stage.
Because of the many construction projects happening on the property, parking will be very tight. You may need to park along the road and walk up to the barn, so we strongly encourage everyone to carpool where possible.
Let’s make this last night as close to the “old days” as we can—full of music, fellowship, and memories. Please make plans to join us. This will be your LAST chance to experience a Saturday night at the Sharp Mountain Music Barn.
The property may belong to Mr. Moore, but the memories, the music, and the history of “The Barn” will forever belong to all of us. God Bless.
