Last week, we had the great pleasure of welcoming Jay Moran from BTPM PBS to the SBD | Contemporary Dance Company office for a conversation about the 2026 JDF

We’re incredibly grateful for public media and programs like BTPM PBS which make room for thoughtful conversations about the people, ideas, art, and communities shaping Western New York.

Public media matters because not every important story is commercially profitable. Some stories are worth telling simply because they help us understand where we live and who we share it with.

And that is very closely connected to why public investment in the arts matters, too.

When we fund public media and the arts, we invest in cultural infrastructure. We create opportunities where people can encounter new ideas, hear voices beyond their own circles, gather together, ask questions, and feel connected to a larger community. That is especially important in places outside major cultural centers, where access to arts and independent public-interest media cannot be taken for granted.

So yes, fund public media. Support your local and regional public radio 107.9 WRFA and BTPM PBS
Support artists. Support the arts organizations doing the sometimes-invisible work of making culture accessible. Our communities are richer, more curious, and more connected because they exist. ❤️

Stay tuned for our conversation with Jay on Buffalo Toronto Public Media! 📻

And speaking of JDF

If you’re still trying to decide which day of the festival you should attend, we’ve done the research and reached a highly scientific conclusion:

All of them.

Wednesday? Yes.
Thursday? Obviously.
Friday? You’d better.
Saturday? Absolutely.
Sunday? You’ve come this far.

Five days. Choose your own adventure. We support that decision. 😂

As we rev up to this year’s festival, we remember the brilliant artists who have come in recent years.

Le Ballet Afrik brought the house down last year with NEW YORK IS BURNING. This year Omari Wiles was awarded Best Choreographer for CATS: JELLICLE BALL.

Recognizing artists for their work is a core value of JDF. We are thrilled to see artists thrive, and overjoyed to bring another beautiful lineup of artists to JDF 2026.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for another year of breathtaking performances! Get your tickets in the link below:

Drop your result in the comments, and share this with the other "𝓢𝓮𝓬𝓻𝓮𝓽 𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮 𝓟𝓮𝓸𝓹𝓵𝓮" in your life.

Looking back at the work we’ve already had the privilege to present at JDF.

In 2024, Angela Lopez (.l0p3z) performed this raw, abstract, post-modern solo work choreographed by Missy Pfohl Smith of BIODANCE at the inaugural Jamestown Dance Festival, created in collaboration with an experimental guitarist.

It was intimate. Unsettling. Honest. The kind of performance that reminds you dance does not always need to explain itself to make you feel something.

This is part of what JDF was built for: creating space for artists and choreographers to take risks, share work, and bring audiences into experiences they may not find anywhere else in the region.

The Jamestown Dance Festival returns September 9–13, 2026.
