This month in art history Vincent Van Gogh painted the infamous Starry Night in 1889! Inspired by the view from his window at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy, in southern France, where he spent twelve months in 1889–90 seeking reprieve from his mental illnesses, The Starry Night (made in mid-June) is both an exercise in observation and a clear departure from it. The piece has gone on the become one of the most widely recognized paintings of all time.

🎨MOMENTS IN ART HISTORY MONDAY🎨

Renaissance master Paolo Veronese completed the largest oil painting on canvas of the 16th century. ‘The Feast in the House of Levi’ is 5.6 x 13.1 meters and can be viewed in the Galleries dell’Accademia in Venice.
