Please join us in congratulating Professor Lynne Arriale on being named the University of North Florida’s 2026 Distinguished Professor, the university’s highest faculty honor.

An internationally acclaimed jazz pianist, composer, educator, and mentor, Professor Arriale has made an extraordinary impact both on stage and in the classroom. Her career spans more than three decades and includes performances around the world, award-winning recordings, original compositions, and a lasting commitment to music education.

At the UNF School of Music, Professor Arriale has made a significant impact on generations of students through her teaching, mentorship, performances, and service. Her work continues to shape the next generation of musicians while contributing to the broader jazz community.

The 2026 Distinguished Professor award recognizes Professor Arriale’s outstanding achievements in teaching, scholarship, and service, and celebrates her lasting contributions to the University of North Florida.

UNF School of Music percussion students recently shared the stage with UNF international alumnus Jordan Can in Lazzara Performance Hall during a showcase of the Fine Arts Center’s newly installed lighting system.

Jordan Can is a Belizean musician, artist, singer, songwriter and producer who earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Performance with a focus in Music Technology and Production from UNF. His work blends acoustic and digital elements, creating experimental music that explores sound, storytelling and emotion.

A special shoutout to Fine Arts Center team and Production Manager Misty deSmit for making the production possible and bringing the lighting to life.

We love seeing our alumni come back to UNF and create alongside the next generation of musicians.

Dr. Andrea Venet is premiering her new composition, Vindemiatrix, for solo xylophone and quintet during her Faculty Percussion Recital on this Saturday, September 19!

The program will showcase the versatility and artistry of contemporary percussion, with Dr. Venet joined by UNF percussion students for an afternoon of solo and chamber music.

Dr. Bennett recently served as a co-chair for the National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum (GP3), held at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. The biennial conference brings together educators to connect, share ideas, and explore the future of group piano and piano pedagogy.

Dr. Bennett has also served on the GP3 Steering Committee since 2022. We’re proud to see UNF School of Music faculty contributing to conversations that are shaping music education beyond our campus!
