Picasso-Inspired Portraits 🎨
What happens when you stop trying to draw a face the “right” way? You get something much more creative! 🤩
In this lesson inspired by Pablo Picasso and Cubism, students explored how artists can break apart, rearrange, and exaggerate familiar features to create expressive portraits. They painted, cut, layered, and assembled cardboard pieces to create their own colorful, three-dimensional faces.
The best part? There was no single right answer. Students experimented with bold colors, unusual shapes, textures, and unexpected combinations—and every portrait ended up with its own personality!
I love seeing students discover that art doesn't always have to look realistic to be successful. Sometimes the most interesting artwork happens when we break the rules and look at things in a completely different way.
