SCAM ALERT – MODELS AND PARENTS, TAKE NOTE
Hey, Legacy Talent Group, Inc. talent – Heads up in case you receive an email from an Andy George about being booked for a photo shoot for Elegant Textiles (see screenshots)…
RED FLAG #1 The Gmail email address. Not always a smoking gun – I know a few legit industry professionals who use them. But a rep for a modeling agency as big as this one appears to be most likely would have an address with that domain.
RED FLAG #2 The deal memo mentions an Elegant Textiles Vice President Ron Siegel, but a check of corporation records online shows the VP is a woman with a very different name and I couldn’t find any proof of a Ron Siegel working for the company. So, I called Elegant Textiles. No Ron Siegel works there and they confirmed that not only do they have no photo shoot planned, but they received a call from another rep about this same issue earlier this week.
RED FLAG #3 Most important is this line in the deal memo: "The production Company will be sending Check of $2,900 and you are to take out $500 for your Per Diem and the rest funds of $2,400 will be used by the Agent to sort out all your Reservations." This suggests that they'll send you a check, ask you to take $500 and send them back $2400 to cover the travel arrangements. Of course, the $500 will bounce and you will be out $2400 of your own money. A common scam type.
There were more, including zero info on an Andy George casting director in online searches, but these were the most glaring.
MODELS AND ACTORS: Any time you get a booking offer email that feels off, particularly for a project you didn’t submit for, forward it to your agent or manager. That’s what we’re here for and we know the red flags. Kudos to the vigilant mom of one of our young models who wisely forwarded the message to us before responding.
FELLOW AGENTS AND MANGERS: Be on the lookout and feel free to share this with your talent.
Be safe, everyone!
