The work moves behind the scenes as we tend to the installation of a new exhibition. We will gather again at the Opening Night of 'Reciprocal' on August 29th - which is also our 9th Anniversary!!!

This is going to be special! ‘Reciprocal: An Exhibition of Art, Mentorship, and Mutual Influence’ opens on August 29 a day we also celebrate our 9th Anniversary.

Yep, school is in session and we are honoring the special relationship between teaching artists and their students. More than a transference of knowledge and skill, these partnerships grow deep through time, reciprocity, dynamic exchange, care, and mutual respect.

15 pairs of artists and poets will fill the spaces at Yellow House with individual works of art and the stories of their connections to one another. This exhibition amplifies just a few of the special bonds—born in the classroom and beyond—between mentors and mentees that have shaped our city’s cultural universe.

Reciprocal also serves as an invitation for all who visit to reflect on the impact of teachers on their lives and the foundational importance of arts education in our personal journeys and in the forming of a more vibrant, beautiful, and just world.

It is with deep intention that we open this exhibition on the 9th Anniversary of Yellow House. We have evolved an idea into a place, where art, reciprocity, and free expression play a central role. In the words of the great bell hooks, a foundational writer in the mission of Yellow House and the relationship between the co-curators for this exhibition, “education is about the practice of freedom.” We are grateful to the artists represented in Reciprocal and the community that has supported us for the past nine years.

It’s the final day for the ‘Silence Unraveled’ exhibition at Yrllow House, featuring the words of Bobbie J. O'Connor and the art of a dozen brilliant artists. Women refusing to be silent, despite it all, is a theme in this show and in our personal and civic lives today. So, come see us from 12-7pm or join us for a closing program with Bobbie J. O'Connor, Barbara Colaciello, and Hope McMath starting at 6pm.

Wednesday is the FINAL day to see the exhibition 'Silence Unraveled' and we are inviting you into the ritual of witnessing, looking, and listening- one last time.

We're closing with a conversation between Bobbie O'Connor, Barbara Colaciello, Hope McMath, and YOU. We will talk about the process of weaving lived experiences into words on a page, into performance on a state, into art on the walls, and into collective healing. This closing 'circle' will center Bobbie reading excerpts from her one-woman performance - giving us all inspiration to find our voice.

The event is free and we will have a bit of nosh to tide you over. We are open in the hours leading up to this final program for view ing the exhibition and grabbing your seat. We will begin promptly at 6pm.

It was a sweet day in the park with Evidence of Life. The natural attraction we have for one another despite the myth of social boundaries is evident and magical. We learned, created, exchanged, questioned, and laughed - together. BIG love to all who entered the park, who gave their time, and added their mark.

Thank you to Rodney Lawrence Hurst Sr for leading the Teach In and reminding us of the history of resistance in this space. He reminded us that such a gathering wasn’t possible 65 years ago and that there are plenty of folks today who’d still work against it.

Thank you to Reign Supreme for your powerful spoken word offerings. And there is no more selfless group of folks than our friends at Jax Mutual Aid. People left with food, books, harm reduction supplies, ice cold drinks, and new friends.

This is what ‘love your neighbor’ looks like. This is how we leave evidence of our lives.

We are so excited about Evidence of Life today, that we had to add it to our studio aprons. Yellow House artists and curators Elai and Rion (pictured here) have created something pretty special with this project. Art - as a means to express and archive people, places, and the past - sits at the heart of this experience.

And when we do it in one of our forgotten parks in the most communal ways, we remind ourselves that WE are evidence of life and our presence - here, today - matters.

Main St Park 11am-1pm. Printmaking, an incredible Teacher-In filled with passion and poetry, and posicles to keep us cool.

Come on out to make prints that capture your connections to past and place, grab mutual aid from our friends at Jax Mutual Aid Collective , snd connect with each other.

This month’s TEACH-IN is going to be 🔥 as it features poet Reign Supreme AND Mr. Rodney Hurst, Sr. sharing his experiences in the 1960s Sit Ins and during the violent backlash on Ax Handle Saturday. It’s going to be powerful to sit on land that bore witness to history while listening to one of our great teachers.

❄️ Water, popsicles and trees will keep us cool
