Whiting Studios is Anthony Whiting's art studio, gallery and source of painting instruction for students of all ages. He provides acrylic painting classes and workshops throughout northeast Florida including the University of North Florida OLLI program and art guilds in Amelia Island, Jacksonville and Orange Park. A new painting workshop with acrylics for beginner and intermediate level students starts Thurs Nov. 1st, 1:30 - 3:30 for six weeks (no class Nov 22nd) on the UNF campus in the OLLI program. This course includes simplified color theory, basic brushwork, how to choose colors successfully, producing visual and physical textures with acrylics, creating successful compositions, painting demonstrations and especially, learning by doing! Drawing skills not required. Bring any photos for use as reference or use photos provided in class. Preregistration is required. Prohibited during classes: producing masterpieces! Classes are for learning, learning, learning. But, students are encouraged to produce masterpieces after classes, to be reviewed in a subsequent class if they wish, or, at any time after the course ends -- yes, even months after. A list of paint colors and materials can be found on my website by scrolling down on the “CLASSES” tab.

A new PAINTING WORKSHOP at the HOBBY LOBBY STORE CLASSROOM on Beach Blvd and San Pablo Rd

This two-day acrylic painting workshop is scheduled for Friday and Saturday Jan 6th and 7th, 9:00 to 5:30 each day. Included
is extensive painting by students in class using new painting techniques and simplified color theory. Instruction includes choosing successful and impactful color schemes, producing visual and physical textures in acrylic paintings, knowing how to achieve good composition plus painting demonstrations, one-on-one coaching and informational handouts. Drawing skills not required. Bring any photos you would like as reference for painting exercises or work from photos provided in class.

Prohibited during classes: producing masterpieces! Classes are for learning, learning, learning – masterpieces may be produced after the workshop!

Since this is the first workshop of the year the instruction fee is reduced from $190 to $160, due at beginning of the first day. Materials and supplies to be provided by the students. ​For details of paints and materials required please scroll down this page.

PAINTING INSTRUCTION TO PRIVATE STUDENTS & STUDENTS IN SMALL CLASSES:

These classes are structured for either beginners or for persons some experience with acrylic, watercolor or acrylic painting and can fit into the schedules of the persons involved. They are held at the Hobby Lobby store. Drawing skills not essential. Preregistration required by email to [email protected] or by phone 904-234-1422.

PAINTING INSTRUCTION IN A CLASSROOM SETTING:

The next painting course for persons having some past experience with watercolor, oil or acrylic painting starts Thursday Sept 1st, 6 - 8:00 pm. The course includes informational handouts, basics of painting with acrylic paints, simplified color theory, painting demonstrations, one-on-one coaching and learning by doing. Drawing skills not required. Students learn a method of creating paintings where successful end results are likely regardless of past experience or level of expertise.

A PEACE CORPS FILM FESTIVAL AND PAINTING EXHIBIT

Third Goal International Film Festival Celebrates 55 Years of the
Peace Corps Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm at
Players by the Sea, at 106 6th Street North, Jacksonville Beach.

The First Coast Returned Peace Corps Volunteer's are launching the Film Festival honoring the third goal in John F. Kennedy's
mission statement for the Peace Corps, "to help promote a better
understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans."

The festival features an award-winning film, brought to the screen by Executive Producer Angelina Jolie, based on the inspirational true story of a young Ethiopian girl and a tenacious lawyer embroiled in a life-or-death clash between cultural traditions and their country's advancement of equal rights.

The event will also showcase documentaries made by Peace Corps volunteers, as well as Ethiopian dance, international foods
and a Skype conversation with the film's producer, Mehret Mandefro. Many returned Peace Corps volunteers will attend and will be pleased to share their experiences.

A bonus of this Peace Corps festival is viewing returned Peace Corps volunteer artist Anthony Whiting's show of 38 of his paintings at this festival -- www.whitingstudios.com.

An acrylic painting workshop where students learn to create successful paintings by gaining the essential knowledge required and developing skills of composition, form and color. Students will learn by doing in this interactive class setting. Drawing skills not required.

Supply List: Acrylic Paints - Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Medium, Napthol Crimson or Napthol Red, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue and Dioxazine Purple; Flat brushes in sizes such as #4, #6, #8; large plastic water container; spray bottle for use with water; two sheets watercolor paper such as Arches 140 lbs; sketch pad; palette or paper or styrofoam plates; palette knife; clean rags; pencil, notebook, bag for supplies.
