As we go through video clips from this past weekend, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the generosity of our community.

We received a generous donation to cover the musician expenses for our event. In exchange for this donation, we scholarshipped some students from and the community to attend. This was especially meaningful as truly trained Afro-Diasporic musicians are difficult to come by, and especially those who can play the bata.

The donation from Harrell Washington ( ) allowed us not only to have the specialized musicians we needed at a rate fair to them, but gave youth in our community the opportunity to experience these masterclasses. We are truly truly grateful to Harrell!

In honor of Mande! Memory Month (May) let's take a look at this photo from.our 10-year anniversary production in 2016.

This work titled "Encoded" was conceptualized and choreographed by Christa and was inspired by emerging neuroscience on memories held in DNA. Through the work, she posed the question, "If trauma can pass through bloodlines, can't power also?" Here, ancestral spirits from Yoruba cosmology called "egungun" are seen manipulating DNA strands played by the three dancers.

Are you ready? We sure are!
Come celebrate the 20th Anniversary of our original production, Mande! The Evolution with us by dancing with these phenomenal guest artists! We will also be posting memories all month!

This Saturday, we collaborate with our friends for a West African Dance Workshop. Ayoka is preparing for their annual dance conference in June. Come dance with the team and learn all about it.

Next, we have the illustrious , culture bearer, scholar and all-around powerhouse of Afro-Cuban dance. This has been in the works for years and we are excited to welcome her to Jacksonville!

Jacksonville! We are so excited for our next get together!

Saturday, May 9th we are gathering for the first installment of the 20th year of production of, Mande! The Evolution.

Mande! was written and directed by our director, and made its debut in 2006 at Boomtown Subterranea in downtown Jacksonville to sold out audiences. We look forward to reminiscing on Mande! over the next few months!

We are excited to have our friends Ayoka Afrikan Drum and Dance join us for a dynamic workshop of West African Drum Dance. Later, that afternoon, we are honored to have the illustrious Marisol Blanco for a masterful workshop of Afro-Cuban Dance.

Both classes feature live drumming.

In response to the current challenges faced by many in our community, including the holding of SNAP benefits, we are pulling together to do what we do best...DANCE!

Join us on Saturday, November 22, for our Community Aid African Dance Workshop. Please bring food items for admission. That's all you need.

Link to register (no cost) will be active at the on November 13. Please see the suggested donation list for ideas.

At the end of the class, items will be given to , which has been integral in putting food directly into the hands of those in need.

Shout out to for compiling a list of suggestions from feedback from the needy. This greatly inspired and influenced our list.
