WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BEST OF SMORGASBORD SHOW AND THE REGULAR OPEN MIC? The Best of Show is for the winners of the last quarter to compete for first place trophy and $200.00 prize. It is not open for sign-ups. The regular open mic welcomes door sign-ups and the winners of the regular open mic show advance to the Best of quarterly show. WHAT WE PROVIDE:
We provide the stage, mic, mic stand, small stool, lighting, intro music, and title cards. If you play music, you’ll need to bring your own instrument. PERFORMER/GUEST INFO:

Smörgåsbord is one of 4 shows our studio produces and each show has the same goal; to cultivate and showcase the talent of Jacksonville and support our community and its artists. We believe it’s our duty to provide artists with a proper environment in which to grow. What Makes Us Different?
Smörgåsbord is unlike a traditional Jacksonville open mics. First, we’re an “All Arts” open mic, which means we showcase music, comedy, spoken word, poetry, film, sketch, monologues, magic, puppetry, etc; if it can be performed, we show it! But it’s not just the content of our show that makes us better, it’s also the environment. Most open mics in Jacksonville take place in the back of a dingy bar, start late, and are generally viewed as a nuisance by patrons and staff alike. The audience is mainly other performers who aren’t paying attention to anything on stage and the stage is often just a corner of a room next to a strategically placed table lamp. When you perform at Smörgåsbord, you’ll perform in our 45-seat boutique theater complete with professional media, sound, and lighting. You’re a part of a show and it feels that way the moment you enter our studio. We also professionally record video and audio of every performance and yours can be purchased for a nominal fee of $10 to cover our costs. We do this because it’s important for artists to have more than just cell phone videos to help them promote themselves and build their brand. We’ve also taken the hassle out of the sign-up process and the uncertainty out of when or if you’ll get to perform by doing everything online. Performers can sign up months in advance and monitor their place on the show in real time, right from their smart phones! We do charge a small admission fee of $5 for non-performers. We do this to ensure that everyone who is in the audience actually wants to be there and studies show that when you pay for something you’re more engaged! All our welcome, it doesn’t matter if it’s your very first time on stage, you’ve been doing this in Jacksonville for years, or if you’re just passing through.
